Hi Markemark,
Thanks for the quick feedback - much appreciated. I went for a press & hold approach thinking that a deliberate action should be required to activate volume mode (i.e. to prevent accidental mode switching), but you're right that a simple toggle might be sufficient. The shift modes only activate on release because the same buttons that are used to select the modes are used within the modes themselves.
Thanks for finding the track insert/delete bug - this should be relatively easy to fix - I'll try to get to it tonight.
Best regards,
Hanz
PS: Yes, the level meter values are available via the LiveAPI (add_output_meter_level_listener) - this is what The Bridge uses to update the track meters in Serato...

This is awesome! As someone who just got the APC40, I could already see how most of this stuff should have been included in the first place.
My question: Is there somewhere I can get a basic 'manual' of how to use the script, all the functions etc? I looked on the blog and saw all the update notes, but I'm curious if someone has compiled everything in one document. For the noobs.

APC40_22 revision 3a has been uploaded to my blog. Fixed bug: Encoders and sliders now automatically follow tracklist changes (i.e. slider/encoder track assignments update properly after track insertion or deletion). Thanks again to Markemark for the bug report.
Best,
Hanz
@jbeckl: At present, the only "manual" is the readme.txt file included with the download. Sorry if it's a bit on the cryptic side.

Thanks Hanz,
That was a quick fix, deleted/added a couple of tracks and looks good!!!
Ableton, can you fix your software/controller so maybe we can move more than two knobs at once without the third and all others lagging behind?? I mean you only had 1 and 1/2 years to fix this. Do you guys have an apc40 handy??
Ok, yeah I'm pissed because read this thread and then look at your history of fixing things on the apc40 that users have brought to your attention. Its quite obvious now how you should be able to fix issues in a fraction of the time an end user can, I mean come on you wrote the code.
Here's a hint ableton, if you select 4 tracks at once and move one fader on the apc40 all 4 faders will work smoothly together, is this a hardware issue?..... pass buck to akai.....

Hanz.. First of all.. many thanks for creating this and for all your hard work dude!! respect
Will this script run on Mac? Edit...opps just seen it does
Is there any way that the 'red box' can be incorporated into Arrangement view ie vertically? I soo often find when I'm working in arrangement that I want to see what tracks the apc is controlling but can't without a royal pain in the ass!
Thanks again.

Hi Hanz. I dunno if this is something that's related to the press and hold feature with the pans, but when I do a manual mapping for the knobs under Pan and then for the knobs under Send A, when paging back and forth, the values from the previous page are retained, making the values on the selected page jump. :(
I hope I explained this well enough...
Thanks for all you do! This is the greatest!
I'm getting my dj template ready for Burning Man!
edit -Never mind. I'm dumb... Thanks again!!

I finally got to try this stuff out.

Totally AMAZING!!!
It almost hurts to make any kind of request and add to the overwhelming amount of them that already exists, especially since this is already incredible and your giving it away for free. Seems Ableton or Akai really dropped the ball on this deal. I couldn't thank you enough for filling the gap. I figured an APC40 editor would have been a part of my purchase when I bought this thing long ago.
HOWEVER, after my first hour messing with the script I only have on major issue with it. I like the idea of using the Cutoff/EQ setting, I just wish I could use my own FX Racks. I'd rather see the Track Control knobs be Shift + Pan Button = Default with the cool press pan/volume feature, and the rest all user modes or at least Shift + Send A = Rack one in focused track, Shift + Send B = Rack two in focused track. And keep Shift + Send C a user mode. My main reason for this is the way it is currently set up forces the user to be limited to Filter/Cutoff by using only the default Live Filter and the Default EQ 3. Although I generally have a Filter and EQ on every track, I use my own AudioFX racks with a particular chain set up. I use a one knob filter sweep as a DJ mixer would have, and an EQ that is Lo, Lo Mid, Hi Mid, Hi. Personally I have always thought the EQ3 sounds terrible.
Lastly, and stated previously I would love, LED feedback in Matrix User 8 mode.
NEVERTHELESS your efforts should go down in history. AND I am not necessarily asking YOU to do this, but maybe point me in the right direction to modify a script to my liking. I know a wee bit of python and would like to know more. Not just for the APC40, but my job as well.
THANKS MAN!
Question, a guy I work with is a wiz at python, mainly for 3D animation in Maya, but he knows coding for sure. Do you see a DIY APC40 editor as a possibility? Some way to make an interface almost like automap, that would generate custom scripts for users? If there was a way to incorporate that into a website where someone could log in and create a script then download it for a fee, one could have some serious pocket change.

i'm using live 7.0.18 - i tried to use decompiled apc40 script from my version of live. i've created apc40_custom dir, put them there without any modifications. after a start of live, compiled binaries appeared (.pyc) but they don't work with apc40 controller. any hints?

Hey all,
A new version of the script is now available at my blog - featuring an all new 64 step sequencer.
Have fun.
Hanz
PS: Bug reports welcome.
