UPDATE ON MIDI
erm, okay.

Got the camera connection kit and an M-Audio MIDI Uno USB-to-MIDI adaptor.

So far there's no problem in sending MIDI to various apps. Notes, CCs, etc.

But I cannot, for the FUCKING LIFE OF ME, send one goddamn MIDI message from an iPad app and have it recognized by Live.

Further, upon cracking open the free MIDI utility for the Mac, no messages are getting through on the Input side, but plenty are going out.

Further, there's a free MIDI utility monitor app for the iPad and that's showing both input and output on the Uno as being connected.

Fuck FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Before you buy a friggin thing, it might be best to wait, Old Boy. At least until I spend a small fortune in adaptors and untold hours of agony in figuring this shit out for you - thus saving you time and money.

I'm currently heading up a one man bitchfest about iPad MIDI on no less than 5 forums.

Oh goodie. No shit but the UPS dude just dropped off my MIDI Mobilizer.

Now I have to search which one of my apps supports it. Because I found out, of course, that the app devs have to actually participate in the SDK or whatever the fuck it's called. Hopefully it will be able to allow MIDI to be sent from apps. lol.

IMPORTANT LIFECHANGING UPDATE

For those apps that support it, the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer works like a fucking charm. Send and receive MIDI, no probs.



It's so bitchin cool to send MIDI notes to the NLogSynth app and then mess with it's XY pad.

Well, let's see what happens with that fucking Uno.

Clearly there's no stable way that I can see for full MIDI connection other than Line6 or wifiMIDI.

Who me? I'm waiting for you to figure everything out.

I personally will be waiting before buying a midi device of any sort for my iPad. I think im gonna hold out and see what other type of interfaces become supported in the future, since I have USB interfaces lying around unused at the moment.

As far as the camera connection kit goes, definitely not something I would want to rely on for live performance. It just doesn't seem like a solid enough of a connection for me, and it sticks out all funny making the whole scenario even worse.

All of this makes the iPad much more usable for me when working in a stable environment, but still not any more valid for live performance unfortunately when it comes to MIDI.

I hope, nay, expect LSZ to start a new thread reporting on what works with what adapters as he gets a few more tests under his belt, and to keep it updated as more info is learned.

I think he is the only one hell bent on this while most of us have just given up based on his findings so far.

I think sainthood is in order here.
