All the more reason why I have felt like the U.S. has been setting the stage for war with Iran.. so who wants to place some bets... I say well before a year from now we will see some military action against them...

well, that article I just read that Deva linked to was saying that it will make more sense for Israel to launch the campaign under the US's umbrella - made a lot of sense

Yes. Lebanon was a tester. A toe dip in the pool. Didn't go well.

In that case, what we are seeing now is the US creating the international security context for Israel's unilateral strike and preparing to cover Israel's back in the aftermath.

This just reminds me of the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED setting a few years back, many dozens of thousands lives ago...

In other words, covering Isreal's back in the aftermath, still means the U.S. is going to be in the thick of war like we wouldn't believe, kind of like today, after we "accomplished" our mission in Iraq years ago. So I am convinced we will be there to fight in major combat. We will have a slew of troops conveniently positioned in Iraq. Its just a big fucking game of chess... or American football... whichever you prefer.
