Yes, I already posted my results in the Live 5 performance test thread. Though I do not think that test is very indicative anymore of overall power in Core Duo set ups.

I really want to hear more about heat / fan issues. How do owners feel about
these issues? Do you need to use the fan control application, or does it seem to be cool enough / quiet enough with the default settings?

I already know the performance will be way more than I anticipate needing anytime in the near future... I almost never max out my iMac G5. All the complaints about heat / fan are really what's holding me back at this point. - Charlie

I didn't think the heat or fan was too much at all. To be honest, I've sat with it on my lap working on some Live stuff, and yes it gets warm, but no warmer than any other laptop I've used. Certainly I wouldn't say mine gets HOT. I've seen pics of people cooking eggs on the bottoms of their MB laptops, but that's just gotta be a scam, mine doesn't even come close to being that warm.

The laptop is VERY quiet for most uses, in fact the first thing I thought when I got it was "damn, this thing is really quiet". Sure, when you start pushing it harder the fans spin faster and get a little louder, but it's still quieter than most laptop CPU fans I've heard. I'd have no qualms about miking up an instrument in the same room as the MBP at all.

thanks Tarekith - what test scenario do you think would be a better indicator for Core Duo/Core 2 Duo machines?

there's a few threads on the forums where we talk about a new Live 6 test. Basically it needs to be a test that really stresses both processors,a nd hard too. Seems like the Core (2) Duo's throttle back CPU power until it's needed, so the current test is too light IMO, it's just showing a throttled reading.

Honestly, I'd be happy if I could get one of the Abe's to answer us on how best to set this up. Or better yet, create the test project for us based on what they know about how Live 6 is designed to handle multiple CPU's.

the thing is to make sure things are kept as seperate as possible

the multi-core stuff wont split things that are routed to each other such as track routings and sends

so for example tracks with inserts would be better than using lots of sends

but if you use lots of sends on one track than you could use up one of the cores more quickly as all the tracks using those sends including the returns will all use the same core - so if you have a way of telling how much you've used in each core then you could use routing and sends until you've reached the limit then split it

but really you're probably safer just using a number of tracks with insert effects - reverbs are always a good hog
