No the "Live Looper" must be able to loop without any knowledge of how long the loop will be, the looper (person) governs this on the fly, that's the whole point ;)

we need a manifesto.

1 - thou shall be able to loop without any knowledge of how long thy loop will be, the user shall govern this upon the fly.

Yeah, and you know if Ableton just enabled "first recorded clip sets tempo" and left everything else in Live as it currently is, myself and many others would already have the perfect looper in Live, yes, Live as it is right now. (I'd take all the reversing, fading, merging etc as a bonus but I don't particularly yearn for it).

Session View + FirstLoopSetsTempo = Looper.

Amen! :D

Ps. Clip overdub recording possibilities through expanded single tracks (a la drum racks) rock my boat also! That way we could have an undo/delete feature implemented very easily! The way I see it is like a 'scene' inside a track. The whole 'scene' could be manipulated as individual takes or as one mass or both... No?

Is there any kind of MIDI looper? I'd like to be able to to record midi clips as well with a single foot pedal.

I believe a company called Ableton released one, Session View( or something), it's called.

they named it Overdub, it's in the manual and help box. it's the button to eternal midi recording enlightenment.

Geezus is about to have his head flown. ;)

I mean a way to record from one clip to another clip, not overrecording old data in the same clip
