Come on now Leisuremuffin. You can't be serious. Are you saying that if someone dislikes a particular style of music that they are ignorant? As I interpret it, according to you people are not allowed to dislike anything and if they do they are dismissed as narrow minded. Your opinion doesn't make sense to me. Taking it to the extreme, does that mean that if I don't like the idea of having my testicles slowly tightened in a vice I am exposing my ignorance, because listening to South Americans playing the pan flute and wearing ponchos is the equivilance of having my balls tightened in a vice.

What I meant to say and should have said was I hate bossa nova, tango and poncho wearing pan flute music whose origins coincidentally are South American. My wording may not have been accurate. My excuse is I got back from a long flight from Australia two days ago and am still terribly jet lagged. 32 hours travelling takes its toll on you.

But enlighten me. Name me a genre of music from South America that isn't in that vein. All I have heard from South America is music in that style and to repeat what I said in an earlier post, what I have heard so far doesn't appeal and I have no desire to explore all the possible others unless something comes out of the blue that warrants exploration. I am not going to actively seek it out.

But I have the feeling no matter what I say, you are going to slam me down. I just find it surprising that you fail to see that my original point is that you can not classify someone as ignorant because they don't like something. I could just as easily turn this around and accuse you of ignorance because you don't see my point.

Basically a very stripped down electro beat with rap-yelling in portugese on top. It's fairly easy to find out about, especially after diplo semi-popularized it a few years ago. There is a "mad decent radio" podcast with a lot of that stuff in it. can't rememmber the episode.



anyway, i don't give a shit what you do or what you listen to, but i'm going to judge anyone who says "I hate x" when they don't know anything about X as a fucking idiot. sorry. tough luck. I don't like everthing i've ever heard, but i've found something good in every genre i've come across. Even if that good thing was just having a laugh. And i do actively go out and try to hear stuff that i've never heard before. I enjoy it! I certainly won't tell you that i hate, or even don't like, a genre that i don't know shit about. Which, btw, is what you are doing, sir. I don't know how much more clear that can be made.

Based on the genre's I mentioned that I hate, I have heard enough to form an opinion. It's not as if I have heard only a little of that stuff. It is based on a valid opinion. But I have already said this. But you bandy about the words fucking idiot too easily. Nothing I say will make you change your mind either. I have explained that I haven't dismissed an entire continents musical output and true I don't know EVERY artist or researched it in the hope I will find something I like and I don't want to bother. If I happen to come across something that appeals, then I will persue it further.

I am not offended. Just defending my viewpoint. I find it a shame though that you have to resort to insulting remarks when there is no need for that. People who have to resort to abuse have in essence lost the argument. How do you expect someone to take you seriously if you insult them. The natural reaction is to just close up and refuse to listen. I think it is far more effective to make and argue a point in a civilised manner, people tend to take you more seriously and give you a fair go.
