I think squarepusher would give you the thumbs down on that statement :)
well, squarepusher is kind of a hairy guy (not bald), and also the drums that he does which sound even vaguely 'real' are quite breakbeaty and chopped up. In fact they are mostly samples from old jazz records - EG : Beep Street. Chopped samples is what makes sense when it comes off one guy one the stage.

But, If you hear that naturalistic drum track for 6 minutes and it's just sounding liek a recording of a drummer ... and there is no drummer there, it seems wrong and lame.
When I see a technoid guy I expect to hear 'SAMPLES' . I want sample tricks and sample music. that means loops and breaks ... not just a 6 minute drum recording .

I'm sure people will disagree with this - but personally I find it odd to hear the sound of a "real drummer " when obviously he isn't there, it creates a sense of disconnectedness. I want to hear the sound of "Samples" , that makes more sense.
I mean - 'samples' of a real drum kit , chopped and looped. But not just a straight drum track as if it came from a session track.

so ultravisitor is something he plays live is it?
What?

I SAY : I don't like to play full drum tracks because it seems weird
YOU SAY: what ?

are you trying to say that ultravisitor sounds like a session drummer in on £50 an hour, on a backing track?

*sigh*
for fucks sake

one man

ME

on stage

with a laptop

I don't want to play long unaltered drumtakes, that sound like unaltered long recordings of drums. Recordings of drums up to 6 minutes in length that sound like unprocessed drum kit as made by Pearl, or another manufacturer of drums and as recorded in a studio , with a lot of mikes

I don't want to play a recording of that recording of a long drum take of a session drummer with no alterations or effects, no thing that indicates a connection with the laptop guy because the long 6 minute recording of a session drum take with no alterations, no effects

because

I dont want to play a long drum recording

right?

apparently this thought of mine is wrong because

A: Squarepusher has a recorded with chopped up drum samples on
- WTF
B: Squarepusher used to be a drummer
- WTF 2

oh yeah thats right - squarepusher plays long unaltered recordings off his laptop with no sample tricks , of long session drum recordings, natural sounding, unprocessed.

I , do not want to play long recordings of long unaltered and unprocessed drum takes, off a laptop, unprocessed, not sounding like a 'sample' because I dont want to play a long unaltered recording of a drum take off a laptop with no sample tricks or effects

squarepusher also processes drums into small samples, he does not make a sound like an unaltered recording of a drum kit, while standing on stage without an unaltered drum kit. he make a sound like a sample

anyone else need it repeating?
