Great flick for so many reasons!
The sequels, while entertaining, were classic examples of how to do a sequel to a unique film completely wrong! The Hollywood factor at its worst. But I do find them entertaining -especially on subsequent viewings where the sting of disappointment has worn off.
When I go back & watch The Matrix today, it really strikes me just how well made it is. This is excellent sci-fi done right. Plus it is a very great actin film as well. They really pulled it off.

Absolutely. One of the greatest directors who ever lived.

Paths of Glory is pretty good too, especially for all you proud freedom fighters...what war's really like.
Love 'Dr. Strangelove'! Still haven't seen 'Paths of Glory' -to my shame! My favorites have got to be '2001: A Space Odyssey' ("open the pod bay doors HAL") & 'The Shining'' ("how do you like it?"). I said it before: if you ever get the chance to see '2001: A Space Odyssey' in a theater -RUN don't walk to see it! The effect is overwhelming. It is a milestone of both cinema & science fiction. Actually, go see any Kubrick film at the theater! They are all cinematic masterpieces.
johnathon doe wrote:Actually, The Thin Red Line would be a good double bill with this.
'The Thin Red Line' is a really moving film, utterly beautiful & unique in the war film genre. This movie really got to me.

Speaking of doco's,
No End In Sight, Charles Fergusson's investigation into the mis-management of the Iraq War is viewable in it's entirety on YouTube until Nov 4th (significant date...) Many interviews with the politicians and soldiers who were involved on-the-ground.
Seriously worth a watch for an insight into how the situation in Iraq got so fucked up.

Requiem for a Dream - watch it, but plan your night. you're gonna want to curl up and die afterwards, and maybe for a day or so afterwards.

'A Scanner Darkly' based on the novel by Philip K. Dick & directed by the same director using a similar technique is also very good.
