The instrument rack-solution is elegant, but has one problem - one of the instruments must be played using another controller than the others. Is there a way around this?

if the 2 controllers don't need to be played simultaneously using a different chain each, then just set the 'midi from' to 'all ins'. both controllers will play whatever chain is selected. but if you need to have each controller play a different chain simultaneously, then use 2 tracks, one for each controller, with an instrument rack on each.

I've gone for the solution using two tracks with an instrument rack on each, and it works like a charm:)

he could just set up an instrument track containing a rack with all the instruments on different chains, then just send the midi to that track, then select what chain to go to.

not sure what the benefit is, except that its way easier to route thing around incase you wanna try that bassline on the lead synthesizer instead without tweaking the sound. i guess. but its doable that way anyways. heh.
