Ableton Forum

My guess or expectations are:


1. Serato using Ableton FX
2. Ableton using Serato to let us scratch clips

Anything less than these two and Im over Ableton Announcements.



Add Max/Msp colaboration with Reaktor-like enhancements and we got a muthasucka of an audio application.

This would allow us to forget about all the 'missing' DAW features
and just rewire into LogicPro / ProTools / Cubase / Reeper / whatever...

Think it will be a way to rewire serato into ableton but based on a new protocol, using live clock feed from ableton or Serato in either direction to control the other.

Serato will come out with a new interface and 4 deck mixing.

hmm I figurexd Serato would just come up as a VSTi (or ableton instrument)

I hope you dont have to switch between apps as that's apain when you want to have one open and press record in another. . .

Ie I use Harmony navigator sometimes and that;s just a right old tw@t when trying to loop and record. . .

I want to be able to launch clips using a piece of timecode vinyl. You'd still have a warp marker set at 1.1.1, but maybe there would be a second warp marker that would bring the clip back into sync if you didn't lauch the clip perfectly using the vinyl.

So you'd be able to scratch a clip, and have Live sync it with the rest of the playing clips once it was playing. This could also be applied anywhere along the wave form (so, effectively, scratching ignores warp markers, but as soon as you let go of the record, the first warp marker that passes the "play head" shifts the clip back into sync with the master tempo...).

I'd also like a single piece of timecode vinyl to control the clips in every track. Maybe use a mid knob to select which track the timecode will be sent to?

I gots LOTS of ideas - I hope they ask us...

I think all this stuff is a bit complicated, imo leave serato what it does best vinyl emulation and keep serato to launching clips and being able to add instruments etc into the mix.

Give me 4 deck Serato and i won't need much else

except maybe a few fx

The holy grail for a while now has been syncing turntables to Live. If they can pull this off I'll be happy. But if they can pull off scratching/launching in sync with the master tempo I'll be V.HAPPY.

Yes...yes. But one thing i am also wanting is an ergonomic way to nudge clips into alignment with one another.

I mean, to compensate for a certain groove clips have together, its sometimes necessary to nudge one of them slightly ahead or slightly behind the other. This seems to be the case even with perfectly warped clips- sometimes you want a certain beat to be slightly staggered. One of the great things about turntables is that you can do this wlmost without thinking, just by nudging the platter.

I like your idea about scratching which then drops precisely back in sync after the warp marker- but what about preserving the offset- in some cases it will be desired?

Forgot to say- yes, one timecode disc with a knob to control what track it is affecting is definitely the way to go. (Of course, we should be able to add others as well, to simulate a traditional DJ setup...)

I'm an old viynl dj actually biting the bullet ,I've researched for months now , made my decision & just as I was about to get SSL and Ableton ...the guys announce the collaboration annnnd Traktor announces its 'Pro' version

so I'm stuck now .grrr

When I ask , when ? .

well at least I didn't buy just before the announcement and face a possible large upgrade cost .

Excuse my ignorance on this one, but if you are using a piece of software that syncs songs together perfectly on it's own why on earth do you need to use encoded vinyl or CDs? Is this a "it looks cool" thing?

well, they announced a collaboration with Cycling 74 almost 2 years ago, so I bought max/msp and still, NOTHING has been said about the collaboration. for all we know the collaboration was simply Gerhard helping to paint the C74 offices.

don't hold your breath, the announcements don't mean much.

Personally , I'd like to use SSL when I gig .

It took me an age to learn my skills and software doing that for me , is , well , not what I want to do , too easy ! . plus more for the 'punters to see , over the email checking scenario !!

I'd produce with Ableton , although effects/loop drops etc would be an advantage over just using SSL alone .

Maybe SSL+ Ableton collaboration will be superior to Traktor Scratch Pro .

As I don't own either (yet), I'll have to wait and see what happens .


I'm cool anyway don't need software for that :p

the physicality of decks, for one.

some people came to production via DJing. with turntables. and that makes sense to them.

and then there are people like me...i would love the ability to manipulate my work as though it were pressed.

ahh , so this is just a deflect attention away from Traktor Scratch Pro type of announcement then

hmmmmm , bit manipulative if you ask me , but business is business I suppose .
Although , those sitting on the fence ( and I'm sure there are plenty) will be mighty annoyed , at this .
