i seem to remember doing this before ... i think you have to right-click the presonus icon or something similar.
anyways, at the time, when i switched to high-cpu, i found that while getting lower latency, LIVE was unstable (i.e. it would just close, randomly) ... so, it didn't seem worth it.
Firebox : Lower latency
I guess maybe it is a PC thing...I've never been able to adjust latency from within Live's audio preferences. That's one thing that annoys me about the Firebox....you can't just set the latency in samples, it's pre-calibrated for 2ms, 3ms, 4ms, etc.SubFunk wrote:Hm... ??? Do I missunderstand you? Or is it a PC thing, I do my latency settings within my apps in samples... There is no setting like low, middle, high in my firebox utility... I am confused...
I don't know how it works on a Mac....on PC there is the Firebox icon which you can click on to change the latency, sample rate, and mic preamp boost. If you right click on that icon you get a drop-down menu labelled CPU, with settings of High, Medium, and Low. According to Presonus, the High setting should be used with processors of 2 GHz and higher.
fair enough... that must be a pc thing then, i only do settings in the apps in samples, done. then there is the presonus mixer for routing and a control for input boost. that's all.ethios4 wrote:I guess maybe it is a PC thing...I've never been able to adjust latency from within Live's audio preferences. GAFM ***Hmm, well I've been testing it back and forth and the CPU setting doesn't seem to affect latency after all. I'm not sure what was going on....I wasn't able to get a decent latency seemingly until I switched that CPU setting, but now I can get acceptable latency. I have the Firebox set to 2ms latency (it's lowest setting) at 48kHz, and Live reports input latency as 96 samples / 3.63 ms / 9.13 total latency.
I don't think I would be able to detect 9.13 ms latency. I can only start to hear two sounds as distinct at around 20-30 ms, so it feels like the latency here is more like 20 ms rather than 9 ms. I'm playing guitar in and I can tell when I trem pick or play fast that there is noticeable latency...not enough to affect playing, but enough to get a weird disembodied feeling about it.
Still, it's definitely good enough to play...not quite like Neb's instantaneous RME setup though...
