Subwoofers arent essential I use Event 20/20 V2 and the bass response is adjustable and pretty good too..

I use a sub woof.
I have Quested h108's and a Tannoy TS12
and it's always on for everything I do. It's not
hyping the sound, it's balancing the sound. It's on
very low in copmarison but you'd miss it if i turned it off.

same here. The studio that we have right now had a sub in it. we connected it, put it under the table and forgot about it. The other day I didn't have the monitors plugged in and was surprised when I still heard sound coming. Aaah, the sub. Then I compared again the sound with sub against the sound without sub, Its definetly nicer with sub.
