in the space of 3 years ive had 3 pc laptops, none of them have run Live smoothly during gigs.

my most recent notebook a core2duo 2ghz machine with 2gig of ram couldnt get through a live dj set (2 channels of audio) without skipping and glitching randomly.. really tried to do just about everything possible to get the shit to work right.

bought a macbook about 5 days ago and used it at a gig last night and it worked perfectly.. what can i say?

Did you buy the current white model or prev gen? Boost your memory to 4 GB you won't regret it! (mine supports only 2 GB officially but I can boost it to 3 GB..)

In the other way, if you had that PC and you were not able to make it run smoothly, you have some serious problems.

I've made live gigs with a notebook HP 530 core 2 duo at 1,6 with 2 gb ram and it worked so nice.

sweetbaby has been posting here for a while, and if i'm not mistaken, has taken the piss plenty of times on mac users. dude is/has been for some time, a part of this community. so what if he wants to tell his friends about the switch? he makes his money from his tunes, he is entitled to use what works best for him.

don't troll mate, no one forced you to open the thread. it said mac (err...apple) in the title, after all. if you don't like macs/mac users, don't open a thread with it in the title!

i live in dublin, ireland, there is no apple store.

(plus i know how to upgrade it myself anyway since i upped it from 1 to 2 but i was unaware that you could put 3GB into it as it is only supposed to support 2.)

for me it would mean upgrading some plug-ins (like buying the Waves WUP which I am resisting furiously) and also losing some plug-ins, such as Antares, which is no big deal as I rarely use them, but still I always dislike losing things like that

From what I remember when I researched this extra ram thing (as last but 1 gen MBPs could physically have 4gig installed but are only specced at 3gig) the limitation lies with the memory controller chip - ie even if you put more in, the computer can't actualy address the additional memory...

also - for any core duo, I thought both RAM slots should contain equal amounts...
