gonna wait for NAMM first however, as i dont want to waste more time doing everything else, but music!
machinecollective seems nice tho!
what's wrong with arduinome?
I like my lemur for this shit, though...

For the purpose of live performing, but also (especially) DJ'ing, Live itself needs improvements to the matrix view, to allow people quickly and easily associate matrix cells (clips) with buttons on a controller.
The obvious options would be either pre-assignable clip colours (the clip stays the same colour even when a new sample is dragged onto it, the controller can be stickied up to reflect this)
or a letter/number scheme that is visable on the clips. - for easy syncing with controllers. (i.e A1, A2, A3 etc)
These could be options that one can turn off or hide.
I've suggested this ad nauseum and it rarely gets picked up on apart from a few of the hardcore ALDJ heads. Hopefully the Serato thing will have some performance orientated stuff.
I love Live but I would love to see a software product that was built, from scratch, with general midi controllers in mind.

Agreed. There are so many amazing ideas in threads like this one that are up for the taking if someone with a little bit of knowhow and inclination would act on them. The future could be very exciting for music software (although I'm pretty excited about what we have now as well)!

I've made a multicolored monome for triggering clips. It's great. But I am waiting for my lemur these days and I'm curious to see how it feels with it.

I've also made a simple midi matrix, with colored buttons, with a doepfer kit. I is really great, but doesn't show light feedback.

Robert Henke wrote:There is obviously a demand for some kind of matrix controller out there. I would probably wait for the NAMM show, which is in January, and see if someone comes up with something. I mean, what is left over for classic hardware manufactures these days? Hardware synths? Hardware effects? Hardware consoles? The only field in which something is to gain these days, and where things are really just touching the surface is control uhmm... surfaces.....
Robert
a-ha! Any gossip on stuff coming up? Are you alpha testing a prototype hidden underneath a monodeck casing?

Its wild what Robert just said, isn't it. But its so true. Computers need better control surfaces, and the hardware world, outside of interfaces, microphones, and the odd novelty is in serious threat of extinction.

Nothing wrong with it at all.
I almost have all the ingredients at home, so perhaps ill order the missing parts and build one, some day. At the moment i cant really take such a long break from the music however, but as they seem to have a kit ready, it might not take that long either. (to build one that is)

since this thread keeps bubbling up, I can't help but add that you can save yourself a LOT of time and money if you'd just learn to use what you have. you can get plenty done with just a computer keyboard if you put your mind to it.
8 tracks, 8 buttons, 1 knob.
assign the knob to scene select
assign the buttons to track launch buttons
done.
if you want to know which clip is playing, look at the #$%ing screen!! no monome needed, no touch screen needed, no Lemur, no waiting, no cash to be spent, nothing to build.

I AM using my BCR almost like this already, but what if i want to launch one clip at the first scene select, and another clip at scene 3, at the same time?
I know what you are saying tho, and i totally agree. This is like how i look at most things in life actually, but for this, it will only go so far.
Then again, perhaps u weren't aiming at me.
So far im using only 2 clips per track, but a knob assigned to generative "chance", to raise it up and down, which causes a bit more variation, with the lack of more clips.
Been trying to avoid using a keyboard for clips, but im starting to consider it more and more..

select the knob to change the launch quantize setting
set quantize to 2 measures or more
scroll to scene 1, launch the clip
scroll to scene 3, launch the clip
