Making it out of wood is the opposite of what I want. Wood insulates and would keep the laptop too warm.

Instead of reinventing the wheel and trying to start a steel mill I'd rather buy one for under 50 bucks and be done with it.

Oh and did I mention I live in NYC and currently lack a toolshed/workshop. Now do you understand?

I have it. It works excellent. I would and should prolly glue the circular bits together they come apart in a legos fashion. It has a swivel (2 baseplates)so you can rotate it left to right which is excellent when you move about.

i love my griffin elevator...

bought it after i used to have my lappy right on the dj desk and a guy kicked a beer standing next to the lappy... onto my lappy, now the lappy is so high, but not to high, so that no glass, bottle or the like can be kicked onto it again...

also it has the perfect high on the table while playing to acsess the keyboard without bending over.

and it's light and fits perfect into my bag.

I have the griffin, looks unstable but is perfect!

it's freaking rock solid. and i mount and dismount it several times a week since over 1 1/2 years... without the stability changing in the slightest.

Do you use it at home? How is the height for that purpose... ie when not in the booth.

yep i also use it at home... it's fitting me perfect. at home it has the right height for sitting on a desk and having the screen straight up in eyesight, using a bluetooth mouse and external usb keyboard with the laptop.
and in a club it's perfect for standing on a dj desk and the keyboard / trackpad is in the right high without bending the back forward all the time. (e.g. for browsing, etc.)

so it does fit me well, and it's simple built two chunky pieces of alloy and one chunky piece of acryl plastic, very solid. and built together in 1 minute.

and i forgot to mention it allows very good cooling... and swings just a bit, so it protects very nicely the HD from heavy bass vibration in clubs!!!

the stanton one is cool as well, but very pricey a bit higher, i think too high even in a club if the lappy is somehow in front of you, no one can see you anymore and they are staring at a body with a laptop screen instead of a head, because it is designed to stay behind / under a turntable, i like to place my lappy a bit off center and not to high so people can still see me and i can see people rather then sinking into the screen, ok, you can 'fold' the stanton one smaller then the griffin, but it takes more effort and time to put up as well.

Hmmm, that Griffin looks great. I can get it for £17 in the UK as well. Think I'll be getting myself a little present later (well, the Solstice is coming, eh?)

wow, 17 quid is great.

yeah it is simple and does the job, no fuss.

It is like $35 on newegg... I need to get a good trusted seller.

Might bite the bullet and spend an extra 10 for that.
