I'm still in love with its GUI, it is really a design classic that won't go away any time soon I think.

We need a Little Big Planet style GUI!
Clips made out of wood, Waveforms made out of rubber, Knobs made out of sponge and the volume meters will obviously be fire behind a pane of glass.

It's completely futile as unfortunatly you will always get shouted down by a reactionary majority who think you want to make Live look like Reason.

They usually miss the point that some subtle shading, texturing and gradiation is actually very useful in interface design, and can easily look quite tasteful.

I cant see Ableton implimenting it, in Live 8, but we will know very soon. They could at least assign different colours to the "Track Display" area and "Track Title Bar area in Arrangement view. This and some gentle gradient use on waveforms would make a big difference for starters IMO.

On a serious note I can only see the use of gradation used for the sake of focus when selecting an item. Gradation would also be nice for showing strength in input and items (the amount of loudness, cutoff, etc). But honestly, outside of expressing information like that I don't any good use for those things outside decoration. I hear what you're saying. I wouldn't mind be able to customize it a bit myself. I guess why I also like the GUI so much is that it's the LEAST distracting of the GUIs I have ever seen. It many ways it is just plain and inoffensive which sometimes is very hard to do.

Is there a way to change the font colour on some of the darker skins?

I also would be nice to be able to stretch some of its own instruments up for a bit more screen space.

The sequencer could do with an update in resolution etc and I would prefer if the sound images changed colour with the appropriate bar.

Other than that it is great.

Coming from the relatively glossy interface of Cubase SX3 to Live was a bit of a culture shock - but in the 2+ years I've had Live, I've really grown to like the interface a lot.

I say leave as is and concentrate the programming on the many other features and functions that are a priority.

Logic (Mac only)
Cubase (Both)
Reason (Oooooh! Wiggly cables)
And so forth
And so on

Just have a good look at the Ableton rotary knobs.... aah so minimal functional easy on the eyes informative beautiful.
Ain't NEVER gonna be no bullshit-fake 3D shadows in Live!!!! No shiny metal! No rusty screws! No woody sides! No glassy glass!!! Thank the Lord for people who think different!!!!!!

What are you wining about?, with a chooser you can actually make a choice.
So you can stick to your old GUI.

The reason we don't want a GUI chooser is that it takes away valuable resources from other areas that need fixing or improving as a PRIORITY.

Live's GUI is skinnable. There are some pretty good skins around.

If that's not enough, and the current GUI is so perverse, then there are plenty of alternatives out there ....

If the program was already perfected and needed nothing else, then by all means make a GUI chooser - but ask people if they'd rather have MIDI issues fixed, or folder tracks, or session view automation if they'd mind waiting while we implement a GUI chooser - what do you think the majority would vote for ????
