This ad is one of the worst things I've ever seen (and heard), ever.
I want the software though... set it for uplifting and then just let it flow..

Honestly, you'll make better music with Rubber bands, paperclips, sharp sticks

Painful to watch. It's got to be some sort of reverse psychology that every single M$ ad makes me cringe. OK gotta go find a dog to beat on.

this is just awful.
maybe this will do to the music inductry what windows movie maker did to the movie industry....no need to carry around my 1986 k-mart bought casio keyboard and yahama drum machine anymore.

Everyone is so keen to hate microsoft that they are missing the important thing here.
OK the add is dreadful and the "music" coming out of the thing is dreadful as well. But I can see what they are trying to do and from a music software technology point of view I think this is the first product of it's type.
It actually listens to what you sing and follows it in real time. As far as I know this is ground breaking technology. Unless you know of something else that does that. This seems like an entirely new technology in it's infancy to me. The application of AI technology to create a computerised accompanist.
OK you can go back to taking the piss now.

Ha so now we know where Simon Cowell gets his songs from!
Seriously though, I tried this but with my great voice all my songs sounded like Leonard Cohen, except not as cheerful. Hallelujah!
Anyway, its from Microsoft, so it must be easy, right!
BTW Is it me or are all the songs in the ads the same?

"now thanks to songsmith, we're singing all the time" is a sure fire recipe for a run of smashed computers
seriously though, if it exports MIDI files it could potentially be useful
