^ very cool, Nico. So is there an easy editor for the controller mappings? I guess that echoes BJ's question about the secret handshake.

max4Live.

there is no editing the device, the mappings have to be re-routed.

However, all controls on the APC can be overridden by simply using Live's regular midi mapping. That will be enough for many people right there. For example, I don't plan on needing the pan controls for Live performance, so I'll use that as a spare bank of 8 encoders. You don't need MaxforLive for that level of customization. Just the more advanced stuff like instant mappings, drum racks, sequencers and the two-way communication etc.

Thanks for the FAQ!

1) Weight of the APC ?

2) Is there a possibility that there is going to be an RGB version later.

... and yes the pricing seems a bit ridiculous ...

true. it would suck if you needed max4Live to change it, tweaking it in the midi assignment page would be better.

You buy it the second it comes out.

Will it be possible to use the APC with Live 7 out of the box with default mapping intact, or will I have to purchase live 8 to use the APC.

Example: Say I decide to buy the APC but at that time am not ready to upgrade to Live 8. Will my APC work right out of the box with Live 7, or will I have to re-map everything myself?

But other reports seem to indicate that this unit just sends out MIDI.
Does the device or Live send anything other than MIDI signals?
I like that we can turn the APC into a Monome, but will this secret handshake prevent us from turning a Monome + BCR into an APC?

i d like to know too, will live send his infos via midi protocol or new ones.
im building a touch screen interface and I need to get the clip grid overview either by midi or osc...
of course max will be there but I don't want to run 3 apps at the same time,
just hope live can send clip grid via midi

Jesse wrote:Hi Guys,
I'm starting this thread to answer any questions as best I can regarding the APC40.

To start off, here's a few answers from other threads:

How much is it?

The street prices for the APC40 should be $399 (US Map) and 449 Euro (European Street price). We'll update our website when I hear back from Akai.

I'm on the road a lot but will try my best to answer any questions you have about the what, when, how and why here when I have time.
Best,
Jesse
Jesse,

Could you confirm if Akai will be shafting people in the UK with the price as well, or if the shafting is just limited to people in Euro countries?
