that is exactly the situation i am examining right now.

I currently run Live 7.x on a PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz, maxed out ram (only 1.25GB)
dying battery. also, it sounds horrible, like the CPU fan is having an asthma attack. have a gut feeling the hard drive will crash at some point. so, i back everything up on a Lacie 500GB.

NI Massive
u-he Zebra(maybe)

and hardware upgrades: like a rack mounted Nehalem rig with Solid State Drives. this way I can upgrade in the future easier. no more portable laptop unfortunately, now luggable rack-mount system. plus the monitor, motherboard, video card, DVD burner, power supply, hard drive(s), memory, cables, rack mount PC case, shock mount flight case with wheels, and whatever the new version of OS X is at that point.
by the way, I'm building a Hackintosh.

Do you even know what a rompler is?

its a mixture. it has all the knobs of a synth but ends up with the feel of a rompler/presetthrower. but not a bad one, i think its the best native instruments product since battery 1.

The new VA oscillators make it much less of a rompler to me, although I'll generally use Sylenth if I really want an "analog" sound. Massive is more for techy and digital sounds if you ask me. And then I use Zebra for weird plastic-y sounds.

A couple reasons:

1) distributors. GC's the main distributor in the US. Because of the volume they do, they more than likely get a sizable discount in dealer cost. Since that's the case, they can sell for less. And, since most vendors will match prices, the price will usually stabilize at the lowest.
2) VAT. The US doesn't have VAT, and VAT's automatically added into the European price.

I tried it and did really like it, I think they were doing buy 2 get one free, or buy 1 get 1 free on synths or something, or $99 all sound reasonable.

All I can find is way more than that though, even for the educational version.

Definitely! It's an awesome synth. The way it uses macros makes automation so simple and intuitive. It's the first synth I bought and I'm quite glad I did

After around 10 years after its release Massive is still awesome!
