Will you be ditching Logic or Cubase for L4?

I sold Logic Platinum when Live 3 came out. Simply because i took my music seriously and wanted to play music rather than engineer. maybe I was a little bit presumptuous but i never got on with Logic's interface,
With Logic I would have an idea then fiddle with it for ages, then consult the manual, then fiddle some more and find i'd forgotten it or it didn't feel the same and I'd lost that creative moment. I find with live I can stay in that moment and explore it deeply without skipping a beat (maybe a heartbeat or two) and it has completely changed my musical life. no joke or blind faith involved. Maybe I'm retarded but i'm not 'pseudo' anything. those fat old DAWs are justifiably scared.

I just think a program like Live gives the artist complete creative openness..No restrictions..Now taht is has midi and midi clip envelopes..things can get really interesting..
I find doing things I can do in Live in seconds, would take maybe 10-15 in Logic..I like Logic, but just feel Live is much more straight forward approach to music making...
Just my thoughts..

The problem with Cubase and LAP is that, just as your nickname suggests, they are old relics from the Atari era. I cant stand that. I dont see the professional side of those DAWs. Are they pro 'cause they look like hardware?Since Notator/Atari wrote:Are you kidding ?
How do you dare comparing ?
1. the sound
2. the GUI (fisher prize meets Toys R Us)
3. the plugin/CPU ratio effectiveness (try applying 10 amplitudes in realtime in Live...)
4. the sound (metallizer alltimes on)
only people takin music not seriously (like most of Live users kiddies Pseudo DJs) or without ears and common sense would ditch Lap or Cux.
That doesnt mean that Live isnt a great proggie, being a prof. DAW is just not its purpose, its purpose is being an inspiring and funny toy.
Live advantages in my opinion: Cubase/LAP GUI is total crap compared to Live. A music program should not limit itself to looking like hardware. Remote controlling LAP or Cubase is a huge pain in the arse compared to Live. And last but not least, the workflow of live is incredible. Live is much faster and more intuitive than those old Atari DAWs. Live does not get in the way when you are making music.
Just my 2 cents...

(above guest was me, now logging in for gravitas) i think it depends a lot on what you're used to, and how open minded you are about electronic music. it's like if you've always struggled with difficult interfaces, something as friendly as Live just doesn't seem pro enough. suddenly its this easy and your music can come so much faster, maybe some people will have to spend their time being creative rather than fiddling about thinking of workarounds etc. i can see how some find it 'toylike', cos it's that easy to start using, but I'd prefer that to fake patchbays with 'realistic' swinging cables on the back! what a waste of time! if we can get over this techie snobbery the music could really move on.

for me must be , Live as the main tool , the base, everything goes there. Then to deal whit vsti´s , midi, etc.. Bidule Rewired to Live , i just wish bidule was a product developed by someone like Ableton crew , and not just by 3 guys, it takes too long for new improvements and features to came ( got nothing against you Plogue people, i must thank you for all of you effort on keep going whit bidule), i made a change in the bidule default colors and whit this last version working well whit A. Live , i can´t stop using it .
if you tell me ...Logic , Live or cubase? ... in the past ( maybe 2 years ago ) Logic was the software that i enjoy more , ..but i you end up saying Live... i can do things fast in it ..and it works so great whit a tool that im still using a lot..Reason.

Programs like Live or maybe even Traction or Reason are new programs DAW of the millenium..These are the modern way to make music..The others are still in the retro Atari style grid blocks by bars and not user friendly.
Live is a dream come true and way ahead of the others in terms of GUI and mentality and sonic creativeness.

Live is different enough that these comparisons are like apples vs oranges, motorcycles vs cars, etc. I like Live better, but there are things it will probably never do that are easy in some of the other DAWs, like score notation for instance.
Personally, I am trying to decide whether to keep Logic Pro, especially for Space Designer and some of the other included plugs, plus things like Sculpture and Ultrabeat in the future.
Live fits how I think much better, but the depth and power of Logic is still apparent, even if I don't need most of those extra features.
Cheers,
jason

If the majority of others on this forum are like me then most other things disappeared when Live came into my life. =) I can damn near do everything that I want to do in Live3 and I can only imagine Live4 keeping me from closing the window that much more. Of course most people think I and my prefferred music choices are strange.
If it wasn't clear from my post, I would be happy to never have to launch Logic again. Since I make minimal tech stuff, Live 4 is perfect for me. I guess it is just fear of a missing feature that keeps me hanging on to Logic. That and Space Designer.
But I do think the big DAWs will always have their place, no matter how good Live gets. There are plenty of features that they have that I DON"T want to see in Live, so its simplicity remains a huge strength.

Audio Units are better than VSTs for a number of reasons... and they're easier to programme (and there's actuality documentation for making an AU host, as opposed to VST...)gdx wrote:i started getting anoyed with logic since they invented "audio untis" who on earth needs another format when vst was just doing fine..

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I ditched Cubase SX 2.0.35 on my PowerBook G4 for LIVE 4. I use my PowerBook for live performances.
I don't see that I'll be replacing my PC based studio running Cubase any time soon. The ease of workflow, versatility, time spent learning it, investment in it, quality of recordings, help make my decision.

Cubase and Logic are for those who think the technology of music making is entertaining.
Live is for those who want to just make music.
Logic and Cubase have too many bloated features. It would be interesting to take 3 musicians who don't know any of the three programs and give them each the instrument of their choice, a mic, and a basic setup on identical computers to see who can complete a song first.
My guess:
Live (fastest)
Cubase
Logic (which by the way has the most illogical interface)

Different courses for different horses.
Cubase = composing and getting shit sounding good
Live = performance
I normally chop up whatever i've sequenced in Cubase into managable and playable building blocks for use in Live.
Also, even tho Live now has midi, it isnt as advanced as Cubase. Doesn't even make use of both mouse buttons. However it is perfect for jamming in a live situation and for use as a scratch pad for getting down ideas.
I don't think its fair to compare different types of programs. Its like comparing an arcade flying game to a flight simulator.
