For each clock speed in your custom speed stepping, you find the lowest voltage by going lower and lower until you get a kernel panic, then it is suggested to put it two voltage levels higher. And yes, you definitely want to lower the voltage if you're upping the clock speed.

You also can have different settings for battery and power adapter.

I've got significantly reduced voltage from the normal max even though my adapter settings is set to full throttle. I was unaware of the built-in default half- step that it fluctuates betwee when only set to max however. That makes sense.

I'm going to try a two-step settings as suggested by akshara.

i installed iStat menus... it's working fine and light on CPU.

I use my MBP pro as a form of birth control as I use it on my lap quite a bit. I save heaps of cash on condoms.

also, coolbook is great, has a temp gauge for you and everything.

not to mention the performance gains you will get.

sets that sit at 60% will go down to 20%

i like macs and will most likely keep using them...

..but they still do some stupid ass shit with their computers.
