Truly. When I first got it I ran some reggae through it. The Bi-Phase transformed it into a classic Lee Scratch Perry Black Ark Studio swirling liquid production!john doe by choice wrote:good call on that Mu-Tron, those things are awesome
If you want to hear some serious Bi-Phase madness that highlights the square wave, check out the Lee Perry production 'Wolf Out Deh' by Lloyd & Devon, also the dub 'Shepherd Rod'. Sublime.

I have a friend who works for UA, I've dropped him a line to ask that very question. I'll post back his reply. Cross your fingers!djsynchro wrote:+1 for the Mu-Tron Bi-Phase, the Audiodamage plug does not sound like it I'm afraid. It's a Vatrol Phaser, there's a DIY project from a French guy who reverse engineered it. I hope UA will model it, they would know how cuz they got the , erm know-how.
Add a UA Bi-Phase to their Roland Space Echo & we're in serious Black Ark territory.

Here's a clip from the documentary 'Roots, Rock, Reggae' filmed in Jamaica in 1977'.
Witness Lee Perry rocking out on his white Bi-Phase prototype in the Black Ark studio along with the Upsetters & The Heptones, Junior Murvin, & The Congos, who are all singing together
Highly UPSETTING!!!

When I got this, it took me a step beyond in terms of what my guitar playing and vocals could sound like. It was incredibly expensive given what I was making at the time, I put it on layaway and was ultimately able to claim it.
In the 80's I was in a bar band that was one of these "sneak in a few originals" types of bands. There was a band that we played with, they were a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band, essentially (we were more metal-ish, Zeppelin and AC/DC covers) and they had many more bookings and gigs than us, and they were kind enough to let us open for them a few times.
They got a gig touring regionally to open for ... Krokus? something like that and they wanted me to loan them the space echo, hinting that it would good for my band if that happened. I couldn't do it, I thought I'd never see it again. My bandmembers weren't too happy, because it effectively burned a bridge.
But I've still got it

That's the next item I need to acquire in my quest. I have the Bi-Phase & a vintage spring reverb. All I need it a Space Echo. Some day...

good choice. I've got an Xpander and it's really a hard choice between it and the Memorymoog. Thing about the Memorymoog is it was plagued with tuning issues, then Moog folded before any official resolution. So the only decnt solution is a Lintronics retrofit, but unless you live in Germany, it's prohibitively expensive.Kilroy wrote: If I had to choose one it would be the Oberheim.
So the thing has unique routings and really nothing quite sounds like 18 oscillators going through a moog filter, but it doesn't make the Classic cute.
In general though I would say the very concept of poly analogs which by the time they were going strong were annexed by the DX7.
Jupiter 6 and 8 and Super Jupiter,
ObX series Matrix 12 and Xpander,
Memorymoog, Prophet 5, Korg Poly Six etc.
these all sound wonderful to me, and aren't fully realized in emulation.
