Re: Experimental Guitar music sugestions please..
Fennesz of course, as many said...
But I'm astonished nobody cited ROBERT FRIPP. experimenting for 40 years (he's the King Crimson Brain by the way)
Also, Richard Pinhas is experimenting a bit like Fennesz do, but he's doing it since the 60's, maybe the 70's. He formed the band Heldon too. (Funny thing about him, is that he's one of the few artists who directed my attention to electronic, when I was only into rock, but I also went a lot into philosophy thanks to him - he was a close friend of Gilles Deleuze. This year I happen to study electroacoustic/acousmatic composition in the same class than his son).
you might check my myspace page also (first song especially). it's supposed to be quite "experimental", "electro" and some kind-of-guitar manipulations but it is not a real, pure, live interactivity between properties of guitar and computer. so it's a lot poorer (to me).
in the same vein, check my roommate : http://www.myspace.com/tanatanamusiquemusique
(but he used less guitar lately so I don't know about the current myspace songs).
the same comment for some german crazy friends :
http://www.myspace.com/acousticsmusicflesh
finally, well Omar rodriguez is experimenting some songs with a lot of pedals... but I'm not sure he falls into the category our mate is looking for. though I like what he does pretty much (but no use of computer-based manipulation).

I actually did give Fripp a nod. The Godfather. From whom all things experimental guitar have flowed, heh.BOB Cooper wrote:But I'm astonished nobody cited ROBERT FRIPP. experimenting for 40 years (he's the King Crimson Brain by the way)

Yeah, when I discovered Fennesz it just changed so much about the way that I approach creating a piece. His range is very exciting. He can wail with these completely dissonant noise numbers that create a massive wall of sound, or he can do this:

Incredible little ambient additions to Sakamoto's playing.
Fennesz is featured on David Sylvian's 'Blemish' album, which I highly recommend.
Another guitarist on that album to also check out is Derek Bailey; not electronic, but certainly an avant-garde player with a long history of challenging work.

+1 Nels Cline -- his new album COWARD is terrific.
I'll second the Fennesz recommendation as well...
also:
Keith Rowe (ex-AMM guitarist, basically invented the idiom of "prepared guitar")
Derek Bailey
Sonny Sharrock
Otomo Yoshihide
Kevin Drumm
...the aforementioned Frith, Ribot, et al.
Though not all guitar, the new Tim Hecker album, IMAGINARY COUNTRY, has some moments.

can't believe noone has mentioned Buckethead
his Monsters and Robots is a great cross-genre effort
not to mention Colma, which is an absolute masterpiece lullaby
also, Godspeed You Black Emperor have always ruled for those who can stand 10-15 minute sonic epics
