First I had the impression that the new mac minis are overpriced and the specs are lame (1GB RAM...

).
But after reading all this enthusiastic posts, I'll order mine tomorrow right away.

$400 to go from 2.93 to 3.06. Yeah, you're gonna totally need that boost.
You may have missed the part where that $400 also bumps you up to a 1tb drive, and the GT130 with 512mb memory... Once snow leopard drops, there should be a noticeable difference in "snappiness."
$400 is worth a snappier Safari, if you ask me!

I jest I got a MAc pro 8 core instead

Can it connect 2 LCD monitors via DVI with the stock config or does it require a 2nd card?

Wait. Do you need to buy a separate mini DVI adapter to connect 2 LCD monitors via DVI or not?

yep it's not overly expensive but still, they should have made both of them with the new tech (don't think it's better juts proprietry for their new monitors) or leaved it the alone

There are also seemingly infinite numbers of 6-pin to 9-pin cables out there. I own half a dozen. Readily available wherever cables are sold, like at, oh, the Apple store.

So... will the new Mini be a good Ableton Live machine? Or is that a crazy idea?

It's as powerful as a low-end MacBook and they're fine for running Live. As ever, it depends what you want to do. If you're using extremely intensive plugins with a huge track count your requirements are different from a DJ who just wants to play a few tracks at a time with some effects running.
