[OT] Eckhart Tolle
Re: [OT] Eckhart Tolle
The metaphysics of presence is utter bs. It's right up there with "The Secret" and crap like that.
It's just another name for narcissism

Re: [OT] Eckhart Tolle
basically, unless you're in deep meditation, you cannot live "in the moment". our brains aren't built that way. unconsciously processes are going on which you can't do anything about.
"The researchers found that it was possible to predict from brain signals which option participants would take up to seven seconds before they consciously made their decision."

Re: [OT] Eckhart Tolle
You don't need to be in deep meditation to be living in the now. You will always have a noise machine in your head, but you can greatly increase the quality of your life by learning to recognize the noise machine for what it is and focusing on the now. You will always need to deal with the future and the past in order to function as a human being in society, but you can learn to devote more of your life to focusing on the present moment and find a lot more peace. It's really not that difficult once you get the hang of it and has all kinds of unexpected benefits. I strongly recommend "The Power of Now" by Tolle.leonard wrote:basically, unless you're in deep meditation, you cannot live "in the moment". our brains aren't built that way. unconsciously processes are going on which you can't do anything about.

Reading that book is pretty much like reading the back cover of a Celestial Seasonings tea box a couple of hundred times in a row.

Isn't he just the uber-cool, euro-modern version of "stop and smell the roses"? ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

no thanks. just another "new age" guy trying to make a buck off of zen/chan concepts, and probably missing the whole point. barely original, passed off as his own, with the audacity to charge for it too. still, if you bought his book, he's got your number...rbro wrote: I strongly recommend "The Power of Now" by Tolle.

I've already performed the 21st century version of that piece with my core duo hummin and my AXiom just within reach of my menacing fingers. It's the threat of impending power that makes that work... but only to a captive audience. ![Neutral :|](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

I think his attitude is quite unique, and I've benefited a lot from his The Power Of Now. I just keep forgetting to apply it ![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
