how was I to know you were talking about 1978? I'm sure TB drives were like $300 back thenarachnaut wrote:Why do I bother trying to help you kids?Johnisfaster wrote:how does code fill a room? did you print every bit of code on paper? seems to me like you could fit most of it on a TBdrive from walmart for about $119arachnaut wrote:I don't know how to reply to this adequately.
I worked at a company with software so large the source code filled a whole room. The software ran in the White House, in hospitals, in city and state government's offices, etc. 24x7. Truly redundant. It really worked.
Live isn't built to those standards, but it's still a big system.
It also has this problem of being built on a Mac and still having to run on a PC... but that's their choice.
I don't work in software anymore, I don't have the stamina.
I'm happy to buy Live and let them work out the problems. I'm worth it.
This was in 1978. Do you know how much hard drives costs back then - no wait, the Winchester hard drive, let alone the PC was still quite a bit away... The Moog, just a few years old. CDs, what the hell are they?
You really don't know how spoiled we are now, electronics and software are the only things going down in price year after year.
I designed my first web site in 1984 just before the Apple announcement during the Superbowl.Angstrom wrote:I was born in 1998, I can't even remember what a mobile phone was. My grandad talked about them I think

Me in 1980 building my first synthesizer. Yes, those are transistors, perhaps even a VTVM...

Great pic! I hope that test equipment up on the shelf was all built by you from Heath, Knight or Eico kits!arachnaut wrote:Right, how about this:Angstrom wrote: you have thought far too much about this. it's a troll post, on the internet.

never EVER thought I'd read about Heath kits in the midst of tarnce DJs.rasputin wrote:Great pic! I hope that test equipment up on the shelf was all built by you from Heath, Knight or Eico kits!
(It's fun posting stuff that under-30s will have no clue about.)

I totally agree here, though considering the above statement, in its present state, its usefulness is somewhat diminished.SteveP72 wrote:Still, congratulation to Ableton to bring out what's for me one of the best DAWs on the market.
whatever, show me a software company that does this.Jarvisimon wrote:Mine is that i'm not anyone's piggy bank and am unwilling to part with my money just because someone has hit their target release time and has knowingly released buggy software to the public without announcing a clear plan to fix the bugs that remain. My bread and butter is more important to me than theirs.
