All this talk about pricing had made me think that maybe Ableton should move to a subscription service.

At, say, $10/month, that's $120/year; equal to a basic upgrade. Add more for extra features.

Have the Live application validate itself once a month on the anniversary of the purchase, like the current synchronization.
NO! I hate subscription software, that's why I moved out from Adobe suite! Pay for a subscription is like renting all the time. which is a very bat thing for many reasons.
1) You can always forget to stop the pay for some time, and you get charged without your will.
2) Ableton, beside it's production capabilities, is a LIVE instrument. It will be like paying a subscription for traktor software for your NI DJ set...it simply doesn't work, because you'll always need a internet connection to validate your software or a dongle always connected to computer etc.
3) NOBODY loves subscription software. I can give you an example of marketing practice from apple - they force using expensive dongles for ,,pro" capabilities on a laptop with the name "pro" in it. The same thing happened to Ableton when they made Push 2, you can't use usual USB cable,it doesn't fit,you have to buy an ableton USB cable for push 2, even thou is a regular usb cable.

In conclusion, NO, I don't agree with this type of policy, I am paying for new version, this should be enough + the reasons mentioned above.
