Amaury wrote:Just in case you're not aware: say, you drag a group track, configured as you want with the plugin you want, to the Browser. It saves an als file, you can name it the same as your plugin.
Then, when working on a set, you can drag this als in the current set, and drop it on the track header area. It will import the whole group track. It then works "as a preset".
I am really glad I stumbled across this thread. This will make a world of difference in my workflow.
@JBlongz - Thank you for posting your request.
@Amaury - Thank you for posting the resolution.
Nice work. Cheers.
Btw, if it hasn't been done already, this thread should be posted/moved to the Tips & Tricks section for everyone to see and reference.

YES!
Not only has stumbling across this thread saved me from making a similar post but I've found a solution to a problem with Live that's been bugging me since day 1. Its the end of cluttered session & arrangement views with separate audio and MIDI tracks for my multitimbral plugs. Its the end of wasted time taking ages to wire up plugins properly. And further to this I can work more creatively by making complex multitimbral patches with all manor of FX saved with it. What a time saver, gonna start making my presets now
Thanks for the info and nice work Ableton!

just adding that this is not a new feature
so, anyone using previous versions: drag a "group of tracks" (not a group track - hehe) to the browser = .als file which is loadable in other sets

I actually started my own thread before I found this one, but I agree. Being able to save a group is a must have and would really make track grouping a powerful feature.
That would give you the ability to open a set within another set. All you would have to do is group one and then save the group.

OH man! I was looking for this feature, too bad I use live 7
I spent a few hours this past weekend trying to figure out the best way to setup my multitimbral plugins, regular midi tracks were wack because I couldn't do audio with them.
I wanted audio/midi on same track.
I wanted to save a template so I wouldn't have to route my tracks all the time.
Now this is a major reason for me to upgrade to 8, especially if I can group the tracks and collapse them.
