Re: now the "My latest pick from Bleep" thread - NEW BOXCUTTER
Ok, after perusing the latest from Bleep, I have settled on the newest album from Boxcutter, entitled Arecibo Message - I checked it out in the player, and it's just awesome, currently downloading in DRM-less WAV format at what bleep says is the "Exclusive Price". The first few tracks I listened to are on the Jungle/Dubstep side, and bass heeeeeaaaaaaaaaavvvvvvyyyyyyyy. Go cop it.
Re: now the "My latest pick from Bleep" thread - NEW BOXCUTTER
This has to be some of the least romantic music I have ever heard and I would say it's sound designer masturbation.
Am I wrong on either of those points?

Romantic? I would have to say that No, I wouldn't play this on a date or during coitus, if that's what you mean. But then, I don't know a ton of women who are into jazz, metal, or hip-hop, either (at least not in equal proportions to guys who listen to that music), so I guess I don't listen to romantic music.beats me wrote:This has to be some of the least romantic music I have ever heard and I would say it's sound designer masturbation.

Define with more clarity "romantic" and "sound design masturbation", and if you make any mention of John Tesh or Yanni in reference to romance, I'm going to point your "scary neighbor" to your shady behavior thread
Re: now the "My latest pick from Bleep" thread - NEW BOXCUTTER
Sound designer masturbation is sounds and noises nicely sliced up and edited and appreciated by those who do the same, but not so much appreciated by those who don't. You'd sooner hear "how'd they create that sound?" than "what a catchy little melody for me to hum in the shower".

Fair enough, I guess...out of pure interest, I gave your myspace pages one hit and one play each, and I can see how you may not be into this kind of music, but that's ok, I don't expect everyone to love the same stuff. It's not all just microedited noises, though - there's a fair amount of depth and music appreciation in Boxcutter's tunes, too, should one decide to listen closely enough. At any rate, I still dig the album, and would still recommend it to anyone who's into insane jungle and dubstep.

Just got prefuse 73, boxcutter, and the new martyn album for bleep.. Loving the prefuse album, the best one since 'one word extinguisher' class!
Re: now the "My latest pick from Bleep" thread - NEW BOXCUTTER
yeah I was going to mention the new Martyn as well...very good.

It's not something you would play for your ghetto neighbor while getting close.

Re: My latest pick from Bleep - Jon Hopkins - Insides
I think the next album I'll be picking up is going to be the new Jon Hopkins Insides - what I'm hearing of it so far is just fantastic, and the whole album has huge range as far as style, genre, depth, everything...sexy, bass heavy, glitch, some acoustic parts, and has "masterful" written all over it.
It comes out stateside in about a week, from Domino Records and available on Bleep in DRM-free WAV format:

latest pick from Bleep - Clark: Totems Flare; and P73 interv
I hadn't posted in this thread in a while, and also hadn't bought anything new in a while, but this month...
Let me go back to my first post RE: Prefuse 73 - there has been an interview with him that has been posted online, and it makes for some interesting watching:
http://www.newmusicbox.org/article.nmbx?id=6016
He released an EP just after "Everything..." called "The Forest of Oversensitivity" - excellent companion piece to "Everything...". (If anyone in Japan is reading this, Prefuse has a CD out in Japan - called Meditation Upon Meditations (The Japanese Diaries) - that I cannot get my hands on in the U.S. - I would happily buy it if someone over there has it and is willing to part with it, or knows where to get one and will ship, just PM me.)
So, back to new music, I listened to the "Totems Flare" samples on Bleep, and it sounds awesome. I wasn't really digging Growls Garden, but this new album is a little more like "Turning Dragon", so I purchased it and am currently downloading.
Some other stuff I saw on Bleep was from Planet Mu - the new Bizzy B album, Retrospective, and a new Jega album coming out which I'm pretty excited about (dude hasn't put out an album in 9 years, so it's definitely on my "get it" list - FYI, if you aren't familiar with Jega, he's something of a drill'n'bass pioneer with releases on Matador and Skam, as well as Planet Mu - not for everyone, but still awesome). The Jega samples on planet-mu sound fantastic, but the new Bizzy B doesn't sound as bass-heavy as his Science EPs, at least not in the samples online, anyway, which is odd, since a couple of the tracks on "Retrospective" are from older albums/comps. At any rate, if you're into the old-school jungle/rave/bass stuff, check out it out.

Clark - Totems Flare

Jega - Variance (link leads to artist page on planet mu)

Some stuff that I have picked up (but wasn't new) was both Burial albums. I like the first one better than the second one...the first one was out there, and with the exception of the spaceape vocal track, I loved the whole thing, and can't recommend it enough (props to Christine Vaccine - her "medicate with bass weight" mix that I believe was posted on the covert ops site - *coughs, they should post it again* - was the mix that really got me digging Burial).

They do have WAV, but if you can't tell the difference between WAV and 320kbps MP3's, get the MP3's, or FLAC versions. The WAV's are a little overpriced, IMHO - a WAV album costs about as much as the CD's in many cases, just without the shippipng, and I know bandwidth isn't free, but for a business that makes most of it's money from downloads, you'd think that the WAVs would be a little cheaper. Once in a while, I do buy the WAV's, but I always look for FLAC first.

Re: latest pick from Bleep: Luke Vibert - We Hear You, Planet Mu
The new Luke Vibert is out, and the audio samples on Bleep sound good - this is looking to be a pretty dope album altogether...a little all over the place, but what else do you expect from the man of 1,000 aliases, right? Anyway, here's the link:

Don't take my word for it, listen to the samples (you might find better on planet-mu, but their audio clips are hit and miss).

After picking up this new Luke Vibert, I have to say that it is definitely worth a listen - this guy just gets better with age. Right from the git-go, he nails it - bass, impeccable sampling technique, tight beats, and it makes sense.

Re: latest pick from Bleep: Kuedo (Vex'D) (also, lounge)
Just picked up the new Kuedo...holy shit. Planet Mu is pretty much THE label that's making dubstep worth a shit in 2010. This Kuedo release (formerly Jamie Vex'D, and it's easy to tell) is just killing it:
http://bleep.com/index.php?page=release ... seid=23627
A couple of others, also from Planet Mu:
Rudi Zygadlo
http://planet.mu/discography/ZIQ265
Slugabed
http://bleep.com/index.php?page=release ... seid=23419
The other albums I chomping at the bit to get at are the upcoming Flying Lotus, the (I think) full length album from Lorn (killer production, hands down - this guy knows what's up, to be released on brainfeeder), and the upcoming album of unreleased music from the original Vex'D:
http://planet.mu/discography/ZIQ260
The demo clips are just fucking hardcore...go listen.
