hum/noise when charger is plugged into laptop

I had the same problem and solved it by putting some adhesive tape on the ground pin. Very simple. Very cheap. Very effective. Just make sure you put some on all the pin, not letting any metal outside.

you don't have to snip off anything dangerous or not

get a three prong to two prong adapter for your PC power supply and it will very likely go away.

This is mebbe voodoo-ish, but I use two power strips, one with the 3->2 adapter and one without. I plug the one with the adapter into the power strip without the adapter, which in turn goes to a grounded outlet. If a laptop power supply causes hum, it goes into the power strip with the adapter. Everything else goes into the grounded power strip.
