I didn't believe, but now I kind of do.
Thank you, guys from the internet.
I never answered in that thread you made because I figured it was so obvious that
someone would have said something about the new Max 5 copy protection. It was touted as one of the new features FFS!

Cycling74 site:
...and in recognition of our loyal customer base, we have arranged with Ableton to provide Max for Live discounts to plug-in customers. Details will be announced when the product is released later this year.

well hopefully they'll have a bit of a M4L discount for us unlucky pluggo owners, especially if they're porting some of that stuff over
I won't hold my breath though...
Did you even bother to read the article?
"Our Pluggo-inspired devices will be freely available for use with Max for Live,

They said they would, in fact.

I think that this part kind of puts the nail in the coffin of the argument for a free M4L runtime since you're basically going to get Pluggo with M4L.

well that's embarrassing.
Yeah, I guess I could have actually read the page that was referenced. But it's so much fun to express righteous indignation!
anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I'll try not to be such a dolt in the future.
also - glad they are offering a discount

how are the pluggo owners unlucky? they are still supporting it they just aren't further developing it.

It means that if you want to use Pluggo 5 years from now, you'll have to keep a legacy computer around to run it. It means if you're a developer who used the Max/MSP environment to create your plug ins, you won't be able to sell to any other DAW owner but Live.
Personally it gives me a discount on MFL which I'll need if I'm to purchase it at all.

This seems to significantly reduce Max/Msp/Jitter's worth for me. One of MY favorite features was the ability to make plugins.
I have not upgraded to Max 5 due to lack of Pluggo. Now I'm in an interesting spot. I hope that Ableton/Cycling are going to be kind to Max 4 users on M4L pricing.
I think M4L sounds amazing, but I really like not being tied to Ableton exclusively.
Hmmm...

+1
I switched DAWs twice before I settled on Live, there are no rules to this game that aren't embedded in the code.

my computers are always legacy computers

I had xp installed on my quadcore about 2 years ago and I haven't updated windows since as I don't want that computer to touch the internet, nor do I like it when you change things and realize all hell has broken loose.
your point is valid though sir.
