where's this blue hand thing?
i can assign my nanokontrol to the macro headline bar so a press bring that macro onscreen
but if i have assigned the same knobs to different macros it controls them all and fucks up my other synth settings
have i got the wrong end of the stick with this post
it implies that you can control one set of macros and those only
then hitting a different button selects a different macro and controls only that one
i can't see any blue hand

do not manually assign dials to macros, but do make use that your hardware is correctly set as a 'control surface'
Now, pick a midi hardware button (or key), arm midi-assign and link the button with the header bar of a device rack.
whenever you press that button the assigned rack will pop to the surface and your 8 hardware dials will be magically linked to the 8 onscreen dials for that device.
It's one of my favourite features of L8

You also have to have your nanoKontrol configured for instant mapping.

oki, step by step.
First you have to make a user config file for the nanokontrol. I use the rotary encoders from scene 3 as macro encoders. They are assignd to midi CC 94 upwards:
hence you have to write those into your user config file:
and save that user config file here (on a mac, don't ask me for windows):
user/library/preferences/ableton/Live 8.03/User remote scripts/Nanokontrol
Then the Nanokontrol will show up as a control surface
Now everything is prepared to do what I wrote in the original post.
See here an example:
I have assigned the lower button of channel 2 on the nanokontrol, scene 3 (which is CC 117, see above in the kontrol-editor) to the on/off-button and the title bar of the "Dirty Drum synthesizer". The device is active as long as I press the button, the blue hand appears on it and I can control the 8 macros with the rotary encoders of the nanokontrol. I can assing now a different button to the title bar of a different device in a different channel, and when I press it the very same encoders are controling this second device. And so on.

I have a problem where my 'lock' button in my setup stopped working since L8... can't figure out why.
I think L8 is the first version that the device title bars themselves are midi-mappable, no? It's a lovely feature... very handy...
ooh...
I use bindings to L/R arrow keys...so it's all good...
but this feature is great ..I'm def gonna use it to jump to specific racks !

it's very useful if you know how to make a 'Moog-style' knob sequencer in racks, because you can now use buttons to select the appropriate macro dials for notes, lengths, gate times, etc. Without having to use 64 hardware dials to accomplish it.
Well, that's a long subject to get into, but anyone who has made one of these rack sequencers will understand what I mean.

.... ah i got it wrong. I thought you can actually have 4 times 8 macro controls.
Hey but i have an idea....
You actually can.
can one have more than one user configuration?
if so, then why not configure the channel for the macrodials (encoders) like that.
you make
folder 1: nanokontrol1
folder 2: nanokontrol2
folder 3....
and then put one userconfig in every folder, whereas
they all sending the same cc´s but on different channels.
Then you actually can have 4 nanokontrol´s right.
u could bind them etc...
should be possible right?
and you have instant access to the device you want to control
in whichever scene u are?
ill try that now...

i would like to know if it's working on 8.0.3 because i still can't make it work
thanks in advance

ok, it won´t work the way i described it...
however i found out a weird thing.
In my userconfig i mapped the global channel to ch1.
On my nano i mapped the scenes from scene 1 ch1 to scene 4 ch4.
The weird thing is: everything works for scene 2 - ch 2 not for scene 1 ch 1.
Can someone reproduce this, or knows this problem?

pepezebala - very helpful. I knew all of that, but if I didn't I'd be very pleased for such a clear explanation.
Angstrom, you've made me curious. Not for the frist time.
It's a great new feature.
