I've had this when using envelopes in Live 8, particularly on autofilter. Try making sure you draw a small slope to reset any automation you have in your clips.

you have compressed the hell out of your track instead of turning the faders down. the compresser has not kicked in fast enough to catch beat one.

Yeah you get "bangs" and such from this ^ type of scenario or by having your Gate settings too extreme. So the "bang" could be your Gate suddenly opening/closing similar to the compressor example above.

Still, you said it was starting to happen in other songs so you're either making the same mistake over and over - possibly in the name of MAKE IT LOUDER like by pushing a compressor too far... Or something is amiss with your setup.
