Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
I have the APC and a bcf and bcr they all work together, all settings set up for live with the bcf and bcr still work with the apc connected although i have many settings doubled up but will be assigning a bunch more stuff to my bcr and bcf ( i will probably only use the bcr with the apc but it all works as it always did. Macbook live 7 & 8 tested. It seems that mapping with the bcr and bcf have no effect on the apc40 as the maps to live from the apc seem to be hard wired in.

OK, but do you have automap in use with other gear at the same time you use the APC?DJChrisPaul wrote:I have the APC and a bcf and bcr they all work together, all settings set up for live with the bcf and bcr still work with the apc connected although i have many settings doubled up but will be assigning a bunch more stuff to my bcr and bcf ( i will probably only use the bcr with the apc but it all works as it always did. Yes, in fact i was using the bcf and bcr for DJing, and it was all auto-mapped, i plugged in the apc and the mac and live recognized the apc and it worked as did the bcr and bcf same as before, seems that the apc ignored the bcr&bcf and just did its thing but allowed the bcr&bcf to join in! NICE! I have so many knobs and faders now i need a bigger desk!Tone Deft wrote:OK, but do you have automap in use with other gear at the same time you use the APC?DJChrisPaul wrote:I have the APC and a bcf and bcr they all work together, all settings set up for live with the bcf and bcr still work with the apc connected although i have many settings doubled up but will be assigning a bunch more stuff to my bcr and bcf ( i will probably only use the bcr with the apc but it all works as it always did. Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
I've got the APC40 and it connects just fine.
I made sure to download the latest version of live 8 before I bought the APC.
The latest version of Live 8 is 8.0.3 and APC40 should be on the top of the list in the control surfaces window.
the manual to the APC40 is very simple and the instructions are very easy to follow.
1 assign control surfaces - APC40 in + out
2 check box in midi pref. for all available track and remote
cheers!

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
My APC doesn't arrive for a while, but there are a couple of issues with WINDOWS XP in particular that can screw you up if you have more than 10 audio and/or midi devices. The classic document on this problem is here
http://www.rme-audio.de/en_support_tech ... q_10entryd
I've also found that class-compliant drivers for USB MIDI stuff can confuse windows. For example, depending on the order in which I plug in my MIDIMAN Midisport 2x2 and XSession Pro, one or the other of them is no longer visible to Live.
Since I have a Novation Remote Zero, Midisport 2x2, XSession Pro, and RME Multiface, I'm thinking that the APC40 might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Or as my wife once put it, the straw that took the camel's cake.

Just to update this thread, seems that a common issue (this info direct from Akai) is Logitech Webcam and it's drivers will hose the USB Audio. They sent me a zip file (reg hack) for it, but haven't had a minute to run it.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
It happened to me.
I installed logitech's usb cam driver (in hopes of shooting a video of me recording piano and bass parts) and it HONKED the PadKontrol AND Yamaha KX8. Re-installed to no avail.
What ended up finally working for me in was to unplug the PK and plug into a different usb port. Same with KX8. Then the devices wanted the drivers to be installed again.
Now I'm up and running again.
And hopefully picking up an APC40 on the way home from work tonight.

It pays to note the RME article about the 10 device limit on XP if you're using it. Every time you re-install the same device it adds another entry in the registry and potentially screws up your MIDI & Audio devices. You just need to chop out all the redundant driver attributes in the registry to get back to sanity.importedearthman wrote:It happened to me.

Oh, and I think Akai built a bzillion of the APC40 -- they were well-stocked at AudioMidi, and I bet Guitar Center ordered a gazillion of 'em. Chances are you should be able to find one in your local shop if they stock that sort of thing.

Chair... that is hilarious! Good ole' M$ keeping me employed through the power of poor programming!
I'll take a look at the registry when I get home for a good laugh. Then I'll fix it. thx for the heads up.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
Bought it. Got it home. Plugged it in and NO JOY! whahhahaaaa! but it was expected. For my solution read bottom by *******
First I tried the OP solution. No joy. So I read the midi reg hack doc and deleted a bunch of reg keys (read the doc if you want to know which ones). No joy. grumble and get 3rd beer for liquid patience. So now I'm like awe dang what to do. Then I checked out TekMonki's fix where you find the reg key={4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] 4th beer later and I'm looking at like 20 duplicate {4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] entries... NONE have LowerFilters in them
no joy!
************
Fix- uninstalled PK and KX8 in device manager hardware. i.e. ripped all controllers out. Tried APC40 again.. WOOOOOOOT! It works!
************
but wait theres more 5th beer. *hickup* PK now needs to be hooked up. k. done. however don't be a retard like me and forget to turn on TRACK output to the thing if you want automap for drum racks to work (now on beer 6)
Simply plugging in the KX8 made that come back to life after hooking up the correct TRACK input in options. yeah! beer 7 and I'm finally using all my stuff!
Amazingly enough nothing asked for driver re-installs.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
Tone man... it was strange. I had to kill off anything and everything that happened before the APC40 with regards to Live. Install the APC40. Then make everything else work.
If you don't have a lot of midi controllers already enabled my guess is that you won't have a problem. If you do, and none of the solutions here help... keep drinking... it'll feel better.
I'm sure you'll get it workin! Although it was a test of patience for me.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
ok... new information. I boot up today and as long as the PadKontrol is turned "on" NO JOY! as long as the PadKontrol is turned ON the APC40 will not function. WOW! Woot more troubleshooting needed!
Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
FYI... I am experiencing fail.
will try reboots and driver re-installs.
now I can has beer?
APC still hasn't tickled Live yet. Novation SL and BCR automap just fine.
