You definitely made the right choice with APC40. I have and love maschine, but if I could only have one, it would certainly be the APC40. I'm saying that of course wihtout actually getting my hands on one yet, but I know.

monome is the ultimate option for inventing your flavor of step sequencing, (the already vast max, pd, etc possibilities given by a dedicated community). Check out Daedelus for deciding about the monome...

Actually, it's not so black and white as some have made it sound.

Maschine can be used to control Ableton's mixer functions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9RC0lkJsto

Since the pads on Maschine have several selectable pages (8?) you can get more control out of it than the APC40 potentially.

Enjoy.

I will attest though, in lieu of getting the Maschine, check out Hanz's APC 64 40 script for your choice. It will push the capabilities of your 40 to places you never dreamed for sure. :)

I have and use both. They are two different beasts.
Maschine can do more than APC40 but for integration with Live APC40 is better IMHO.
If You are looking for step sequencer emulation from these units then it is not easy to decide.
Maschine have step sequencer build into it's software. For APC40 to act as step seqencer you must look for third party remote scripts or Max For Live patch I use: http://www.ableton.com/pages/max_for_li ... _sequencer

If I could get only one then this would be Maschine. It is full blown groovebox like production studio for me, it can control VST's, it can act as MIDI controler, step sequencer, sampler and slicer - everything without looking at the computer screen.

Don't you mean the hokey cokey? They must have been on something coke-y to make that!

On which note, does any one of any good dn'b/dubstep/breakbeat versions of the hokey cokey? I'd always fancied doing a metal cover of it as it'd be great for a mosh! If not someone should make one. Maybe we should start an Ableton Black Lace remix contest. With hits like the Hokey Cokey, Agadoo, and the Birdy Song I'm surprised there aren't any I've heard...
