why does ableton click so much
Re: why does ableto click so much
It's 8 ... And many people here on this forum are responsible... You wanted features to became it a daw... Instead of performance improvements for live performance... And the real live dudes suffer... F you and ableton for listening to you guys (you now who you are!)dru wrote:It's definitely Live 8 being the cause, we're still early in this release though so lets hope it improves! I've had to bump the samples on my audio card (inducing latency) but we'll see I guess..

Re: why does ableton click so much
actually it doesn't make allot of clicking noises on my pc even at 70% cpu (other then expected dropout glitches from pushing the cpu)
on the mac i just dropped a simple delay onto a return track and it sounded like i plugged in a guitar while the amp was on.
i don't understand how it could be a hardware thing if its noises with plugins
but computer are freaking weirdo's
i would think at least one benefit of work digital is not having to turn off amps when switching up an effects chain lol

Have any of you run the DPC Latency checker tool? I'll be the first to admit the Live 8 version has mucho numerous el buggos, but 9 out of 10 times I have found a work around (which is lame, I know)but this is the real world. (whatever the F that means) Nothings perfect, let alone a piece of software that we all stretch 6 ways from Sunday.

Re: why does ableton click so much
I never had clicking with drum racks in Live 7. With 3rd party vsts, getting the right combination of audio buffer AND PLUGIN buffer is the key. By default, Live sets the plugin buffer to the same as the audio buffer, which effectively doubles the latency, when in fact, some vsts/aus run fine with the plugin buffer at 64 or 128 samples, even if the audio buffer is at 256.
I didn't notice that many issues beta testing Live 8, but haven't upgraded yet, maybe that was a good decision after all ...

nope. I have those clicks (that don't appear in the same set in live 7 with same pref settings) on a macbook 2ghz 3 gb ram, osx 4.10.
they appear when switching scenes. or when certain midi clips get to their loop point. increase buffer size and some of them are gone.
Re: why does ableton click so much
Turn off the metronome - this will stop the clicking. Glad to help
Re: why does ableton click so much
I don't get clicks under Windowz...but I get other things...dru wrote:Microsoft's next failure..

(GUI issues, freezes when switching windows, general slugish behaviour, keyboard bindings not working, looper multi-button...etc ...etc...etc)
...
none of those are OS related...it's purely problems with L8...
(and I'd rather not re-install Vista just to prove a point...)
but as it is ... I cannot help support help me...
cuz it's not 'officially' supported OS..
(besides it not being commercially released)

Re: why does ableton click so much
I also get clicks when creating new channels, dropping devices on channels etc. I do have a proper audio interface (motu 828mk3) and increased the buffer size up to 1024 (which means 24ms, not the buffer size you might wanna use every day).
I can't remember if there were any clicks in L7, but in L8 they are here. And no, no windows. Mac OSX. 4GB of RAM, 300GB of harddisk free, CPU meter way below 50%. Can't be the hardware. Somehow Live now performs so many calculations for each action that I get this buffer underruns that cause the clicks.
I guess it's all about optimization. Let's hope this will be done in the next couple of weeks/months.

Re: why does ableton click so much
I think it's something to do with the fades. I've been working on a remix for a friend and it uses a few chopped samples, i've found the cpu would spike when playing each chopped sample in that channel, the only thing I can think of it being is the fades. Can anyone test and confirm? Just grab a sample, chop it into small 1 beat parts and copy it to the first beat of every bar then watch the cpu meter.
I could be wrong but I've got a feeling it is..
btw, this is without even using fades, just the default fade automation that gets put onto each audio clip.

Re: why does ableton click so much
Just opened the project and solo'd the said audio channel and watched the CPU meter. Without playing it would sit at 6%, while playing the sample it would peak at 16% in some places. All devices on the channel are turned off.

Re: why does ableton click so much
i figured my main issue
other program where left on while ableton was running.
their are still the turning on and off some plugs and inserting plugs
but the major issue was found.
the show went well except in between sets i got on line and left the web browser on.
we launched into our next set and had to stop for a second cause abes freaked out lol
i quickly noticed the browser was still on and killed it.
