Just because he used Reason doesn't make the mastering process anymore or less important: Everyone has it done, thus the relevancy of it toward the composition phase is next to zero.
Shirley that is a rhethorical question, mate? Of course I know this. You will notice if you read my post again that I was saying that he didn't use Reason for mastering
nor mixing.
You see, *not* everyone has their albums mixed on a ProTools system with - I'm quite sure - analogue desks, EQs and processing and top notch monitoring. I'm *quite* sure you're not hearing Reason in there as much as you're hearing Reason plus a bunch of stuff.
But then I haven't heard the new album yet... so I don't know what I'm defending, really. I'm just bashing Reason's sound quality like I do at any given moment... I really, really don't like the sound of that programme, nor the interface. Horses for courses.
Having just re-read your post properly

I'm wondering if you read mine!

You misunderstand me. You
indirectly said in your post that mastering was responsible for the new album's sound, and I was challenging that. Mastering is not as important as the sound source, which in this case happens to a program that you yourself admit you do not like. I happen to like Reasons sound, so in a sense, this argument is also relative as well as technical.
My point was not that "Paws!OMGH"1!GYOURLSOZUER! YOU AER WRONG!!" ... or anything as lame and trollish as that
My point was that everyone gets their stuff mastered, and if they're a signed artists then by implication they should have the means to be able to use analog desks and high quality analog gear to master on... but that depends on how much the label is willing to spend on that particular artist.
You and I are basically saying the same thing, I guess I'm just defending a program I like because you are attacking a program you don't like!
I agree, the fact Liam used other stuff as well as Reason doesn't endorse it... but it doesn't damn it either. All it means is that its a tool.
Of course even our little discussion is completely subjective: I interpretted your words, probably in a way that you didn't intend... there is no hardcore finale to this discussion - It will go on until we get bored!

Just cos the discussion is stupid doesn't mean we shouldn't be having it
Anyways, I wasn't as much talking about the mastering as the mixing. Although I've not tried it, I think even Reason could be made to sound good if you mixed it on a decent desk, with some nice EQs and dynamics processing, as basically what I don't like about Reason is the EQs, the compressors and the mix bus

Scream, the new verb and the new routing options (as per 2.5) are quite good though (Hint: Scream on saxophones!) - I just don't get on with the interface very well, so it just never got on the to get list when I switched from cracks to legit.
What I'm dying to know, however, seeing as I'm on old Prodigy fan (my first love!), is - are the tunes any good? Ah. Never mind. I'm getting it either way!

I don't like a lot of the album. Most of it has the same sound that current pop tracks have.... its that sound where everything is flat and there is no dynamics. I think most people are going to hate it because its so different from their older stuff, its quite reminiscent of Serial Thrilla on FOTL.
I've said in another post that the reason I don't like what I call the "Britney" sound is because I don't give it a chance to infect my ears. I'm really ignorant to artists like her, and thats the way I like it!
I listened to about half the album - downloaded mp3's from Soulseek - and I just didn't get off on it. I probably will not buy it because I didn't like a lot of the songs.
I've just re-read and I now sound like a hypocrite.. I said earlier that mastering isn't as important as the source, so you could infer from this post that I'm actually saying the source sounds flat and bland, but in my experience's with Reason, it CAN sound dynamic. It CAN sound full and lush.... so I would have to infer that either the Pro Tools processing killed Liams original sound, or Liam has his head in different places to what I would prefer.

Kinda in the realm of having his head where I would much less prefer

I'm a novice pot smoker and even I know it kills creativity! ... Well it did with me anyway.

Pot is the devil, although I must admit to indulging from time to time... just kills any kind of drive (like internet fora!)

lmfao. amen to that. i guess ignorance really can be bliss, and a great defense mechanism for my ears as well.

i'm an old prodigy fan too and i have been severely underwhelmed by the new album. it has a real lack of hooks and ideas, very boring imo! i love my breaks and the prodigy doesn't even come close to the many interesting ideas in the genre.
and i wasn't bashing reason, just that maybe his switch to reason was not the best for him. i'm sure he's surrounded by yes people now his on his own and to move to another environment like reason could have resulted in the lack of depth to the songs we now have on the new album.
its true

Its true,
He hasnt just been saying in on the Reason website.
