Re: APC 40
I think this "uneven" price complaint is hilarious.
I used to wonder why the same pair of Nike shoes cost twice as much in England as they do in Canada when I used to go there when I was a kid every year. And why are CDs twice as much?
I was all "Holy jeez, these shoes are 90 dollars at home, but they're 90 pounds here. That makes them 180 dollars here!" Then I realized that everything was that much more (in general) - clothes, rent, house prices, etc... including wages. So I was like "Oh I get it, if they make the equivalent of 60,000 a year canadian for a job that we make 30,000, then they pay 1000 dollars rent for an apartment we'd pay 500 for, then I guess it's all kind of the same."
Edited 'cause I'm ass!

Re: APC 40
So you are saying that the average person in the UK earns more in real terms than in the USA or Canada?
For this to be correct the average wage in the UK should be substantially more than those places and therefore the equivalent cost is roughly equal?
USA average wage in 2007 $40,405 U.S. dollars ( $40,405USD = £24,510 GBP)
Canada average wage in 2007 $42,120 Canadian Dollars (42,120.00 CAD = 23,595.98 GBP)
UK Average wage in 2007 £24,908 British pounds
the average wage in all three places is almost exactly the same
So, your supposition that the UK income is in relative parity with the consumable prices seems incorrect.

Sorry, but that's incorrectif they make the equivalent of 60,000 a year canadian for a job that we make 30,000

Re: APC 40
My bad. I totally thought the average wage was more even. I'll go stand in the corner. Was it not a while ago? Whatever, I'm an idiot.
But one point I do still want to make is that everything is more expensive over there. Isn't that just the way it's always been?
Sorry. I'm an ass. Total brainfart. I really did think the average wage came out pretty even.
Butt.... wait a second! Those average wages for U.S./ Canada are way too high. The numbers I heard was more around 30,000 for both. WTF? Are you serious? 42,000?
Why the hell have I been thinking that the average wage was around 30,000 in US/Canada! Holy shit, I was a bit off there.

He mentioned that he was 12.. I turn 12 in august!
Re: APC 40
Things are more expensive in the UK because our currency is stronger (although that argument is a little weak at the moment) and we have slightly insane amounts of tax on many items (like cars, beer, even some foods).
That, and because most companies seem to be out to shaft people (Especially clothing retailers and, it would appear, music stores) =]

US Census says it's now slightly higher than that (page 14)glitchrock-buddha wrote: Butt.... wait a second! Those average wages for U.S./ Canada are way too high. The numbers I heard was more around 30,000 for both. WTF? Are you serious? 42,000?

women’s by 5.0 percent to

The combined total of the UK, France, Germany, Spain & Italy alone matches the USA.alex.the.forge wrote:really? I thought it was roughly the same? isn't it round the 300 million mark for both? Oh - except the EU beast had a growth spurt recently, didnt it.Sage wrote: The USA has about a third of the population of Europe at the very most, so that doesn't make sense either.
either way, population may not necessarily equate to size of market - or at least perception of the market in the Akai upper echelons
Even Ableton is a German company, so to say there isn't a market here is a bit daft. Maybe consumerism works different in Europe to the USA.
Re: APC 40
but going back... the product is from an American company. is it that hard to believe that people in the EU would have to pay more for an American distributed product? it's not like Ableton is the company selling these. take a look at the price difference for a pair of Genelecs in the US and in the UK. Standard price for a Genelec 8030 is $750 or $1500 for the pair at Sweetwater. At DV247, a pair of 8030s goes for 891 Euros, or about $1250 US. so basically, if the EU is going to give us the shaft, we'll give it right back.
Re: APC 40
I always assumed Akai was a Japanese company for some reason. What is Ableton doing associating with Americans? *Shakes head in shame*McQ714 wrote:but going back... the product is from an American company. is it that hard to believe that people in the EU would have to pay more for an American distributed product? it's not like Ableton is the company selling these. take a look at the price difference for a pair of Genelecs in the US and in the UK. Re: APC 40
Akai was a japanese company but Akai was bought out by a chinese firm and Akai Pro was bought by Numark as was Alesis.
