Use Logic instruments and effects in Live. Use Ultrabeat's sequencer view for live drums. Reduce the CPU i have now from running IAC clock and JackOS to currently rout Mainstage into Live. Use my custom made environment in mainstage seamlessly with live.

I haven't looked into Mainstage much as I run Kore for grouping instruments for performance. Playing with it again I can see how it's a nice environment though. The custom layouts definitely have a hotness. I hadn't thought of using Ultrabeat as a controller too, thanks for that info.

Honestly because Live with certain VST/AUs can take up to 55 seconds to load a set, or sometimes just with a lot of VST/AUs in a set it takes forever.
Live not hosting the performance instruments, and just having to load audio and some FX is super fast to load sets.
Plus, running Logic in tandem with Live rewired is cludgy at best. Not terrible, but unnecessary. Plus, since Mainstage can import audio tracks from Logic to use as backing tracks live, you could theoretically not have a single moment without music playing. This is without rendering all your tracks, and creating an hour long set in live etc. Less chance oddly enough of problems live. plus, you should be able to record Logic instruments directly into Live, hopefully, maybe. <--last one is a long shot though.

Having decent timestretching for the first time will be a big draw - the drum replacer is like a stripped down drumagog and looks good too. The pedal board and amp simulation improvements are a good draw for guitarists, and useful for other applications, although if you own guitar rig 3 or whatever you probably won't see much benefit.

The main surprise - it didn't take them nearly 4 years to release it unlike last time !!

Same here, since the day of Notator..but now Logic has fallen of the wagon as a serious production tool for electronic musicians and is mainly geared towards live musicians( keyboard and guitar players) i.e. that retro american rock band culture. Ableton with Native Instruments is a much better choice for sequencer based composition and soundesign.
They should have opened it up as a rewire slave..so we can use at least the instruments in Live. Lo 9 upgrade is disappointing for me!

While Logic has really good effects, it's instruments are massively overrated.

Yes i can do that with soundflower/iac bus but it's more complicated and less stable than rewire of course..besides does it follow the song position?
i dont think so..
personally.. i like ES1,EVD, EVP88, EFM and Ultrabeat. You cant knock their sonic quality i relation to the DSP efficiency !
But hey, i can also use the NI stuff instead..

I love Sculpture, it's pretty unique, maybe not a great physical modeling synth like advertised, but the sonic territory it does do fits my music well. ES1 does great bass lines. EXS24 loads faster than any other sampler period. EVB3 is slightly better IMO than NI B4.

Never liked ES2, just didn't do it compared to NI synths, and Ultrabeat while OK isn't as fun as Attack and Battery.

Picked up Logic 8 about a month ago and I love it. Unlike what some others have said, I think the instruments are anything but overrated. Sculpture is amazing and so far has been worth the price of admission on its own. ES2 and Ultrabeat are also very slick, and I'm having a blast exporing the sound design and arrangement options they afford.

That being said, I'm pretty underwhelmed by the update here, too. Good stuff for guitar players, no doubt, but the stuff that matters to me hasn't really seen much change or improvement. Gonna stick with 8 for the time being.

Sculpture was definitely interesting, I'm not knocking Logic's instruments on the whole, in the days of Logic Pro 7, they were brilliant compared to what was offered by other DAWs. Just pretty much everyone I know uses Logic (And usually it's the only DAW they've used), so I have to endure listening to how amazing everything about Logic is, but other DAWs have caught up.

I'm kind of glad I didn't get 8 and getting 9, while there aren't massive changes, something like Amp Designer was something I've always wanted to see in a DAW, first time I've been convinced by a JMP emulation, might actually now be able to use something that sounds like my JMP without pissing everyone off for half a mile.

I'm jumping boat for a bit, never used Logic before but I think I'm going to start now, picking it up tomorrow hopefully.

I think Logic's instruments are great, even with the funky GUI's. Glad you can zoom them now at least.
