Re: (OT) I start working today Eeeee!!!!
well that guy owned his own company and he was actually only working from about midnight after d-land closed until about 7 when they prepared to open the next morning.
on the other hand, i was working about 80 hours a week for almost 3 months straight at one point on that project.

I'm back home, my feet hurt and I'm covered in oil.
Yeah, I'm over qualified for this position. I can tig weld aluminum, stainless, cast, brass, copper.... They got me GMAW welding thin square pipe all day.
Oh well, I'll milk the job for 3 weeks until we move to NM.
Damn Guys you all been busy on the forum today.

I'd think the boss would be looking at those welds right now seeing how good you really are, right? I'd imagine a bad welder is a really costly, even deadly person to have on the job. welds break, people can die or even just a slip in the schedule and a waste of material, bad news.
I never started looking at welds until a few years ago, bikes, scooters, motorcycles, boats, wherever. when you see a nice bead it's a work of art, real consistent 'blobs' or whatever you call them, you know someone spent some time on it. I know machines can weld, but not in all areas. it's gotta be satisfying, work sucks no matter what but...

Puff, Now that I've been doing Tig welding ...I'm a crying baby when I gotta MIG. I can make that weld look like gold coins all the way down the line.Tone Deft wrote:I'd think the boss would be looking at those welds right now seeing how good you really are, right? These Jobs are dieing out though! Its really hard to get into a specialized field in it. It might be time to move on soon though.

"Its always the engineers or fitters fault for everything"...is the welders mantra. The ship yard I work at has had a least one person die every year for three years now. the two instances that happened where I witnessed it were both at least half the person who bit its fault. One made shitty tacks because he was hurrying and because he was the only one that was going to get on it he didnt take his time and do it right. The other one constantly walked under loads being craned around and one finally snapped. the guy who got squashed tested positive for marijuana postmortem and his screwed his wife and kids.Tone Deft wrote:I'd think the boss would be looking at those welds right now seeing how good you really are, right? Im the opposite, I enjoy mig with any types of wire. If I had to tig it would look horrid, at least for awhile. It takes me a while to get back into any thing I haven't been doing for a while. Im lucky I have a great teacher who will let me go back in the schools shop and practice when ever I want.abort wrote:

Big up on the job bro. How's it feel to be a working man?
Re: (OT) I start working today Eeeee!!!!
I suppose I could do that as well too. The problem I'm facing right now is that for mig I'm really use to doing heavy duty 1/2 1/4 1" Not thin 21 gauge square pipe. And TIG the small 21 gauge sheet metal. So getting the hang of small fillets on mig without blow through is the thing right now.ThrowAway wrote:"Its always the engineers or fitters fault for everything"...is the welders mantra. Its ok! I only need to do this temporarily until we move to NM ,,just picking up some extra cash to cover moving costs.liveISlife wrote:Big up on the job bro. How's it feel to be a working man?
and I worked at this little dirt hole before not as a welder but still ...to think they would hire me in and take care of me while I push out quality goods for them would be like telling a comedian to be serious...

i'm curious about the brass and cast iron parts of that sentence. i have not had much luck welding brass - the torch seems to hate it. silicon bronze, that's more like it!!
