Hmmmm, no boondock saints, first i bet it will be on his list....

Took delivery on Tuesday. Haven't really had the chance to test-drive, but one thing's already apparent: the RME Fireface 400 kicks.

My studio now looks like a mansion thanks to the glorious dedicated box with the marble columns from Mike's Marbleopolis

Ok - so I finally took the machine for a test drive. Put together a cover version of the Bee Gees' first chart hit (a song that my wife suggested) and did a slapdash mix. Nothing too flashy. Those of you "straining your ears to hear a sound" will catch an audio glitch on the vocal during that lyric - something weird in the room, or maybe I hit the mic stand, dunno... Timing is a bit off too. But, the purpose here was to test the workflow. On that score, this machine is a killer. I quickly maxed out on UAD plug-in instances, between the CS-1 channel strip and Realverb-Pro. Was running *cough* Melodyne Cre8 in rewire mode on the two vocal tracks. (Talk about full disclosure!) Threw some of Live's compressors and EQ8s on some of the tracks. Put iZotope Ozone on the master track. The box handled everything like a champ. I recorded and mixed the whole thing in two sittings. For the very first time I was able to play back the entire mix without the computer coughing up hairballs.

how do you like that 28 inch hanns-G? i was looking at it on newegg, seems like a GREAT deal. read that it was painfully bright too...

Monitor's great. Not harsh in my book. Both computers share it via a coupling switch that I got from Newegg. Each computer is connected via DVI->HDMI cable going into the coupler which has two female HDMI's --->one male HDMI into the monitor.

is this to say the UAD solo card can only handle two plugins at once?

No. I had numerous instances of the channel strip and a couple of Realverbs going - all running at 96kHz/24 bit.

The Universal Audio web site has a chart detailing the number of instances that can be run. The instance counts they show are for 44.1kHz sampling rate:
