Having trouble with registering a copy of Live?

So my concerns about Live's CP don't compare to getting shot. What's your point? People are starving all over the world and we're on a forum debating the CP of a £269 piece of software. To take your comparison to it's logical conclusion. Why don't we close down the whole forum, sell all our software and donate it to the poor?

Here's my take on the CP thing:

- Install Live 4, and you can use it fully functional (technically, in demo mode, but it's no different from full function, am I right?).

- Do the usual C/R CP thing... done, registered.

- If it says you have no more installs left, just contact the Abletons, and let them know the sit.... they'll 99.9% of the time sort you out.

The point being, YES, it can be a pita for the user (and it's no less a pita for the abletons either, right?), but it helps keep them in business.

The real KEY is, at no time as a paid user are you without the use of your fully functioning software! I think it's a pretty decent compromise...

For that, I praise the crew for their choice (a lesser of many available evils IMHO)...

How about alternative CP... Instal the software on as many computers as You wish i.e laptop, home studio PC, home studio MAC, Your best friends Mac or PC, recording studio Mac and/or PC etc; etc; and all You need to do to make it fully functional is to plug in a little USB device that not only can handle one CP for one software package , but several different ones at the same time... hmmm, sounds familiar? I rest my case.

The usb device is not good for laptops with limited ports that are required for plugging in control surfaces, storage and usb mice...

I guess the CP is a bit of an inconvenience but Its probably the best way to go about it...

Is it possible to install Live on a PC/MAC and on a laptop at the same time? Like Native Instruments allow two separate installs per product.

Yes, that would work, but would depend on some programming code to constantly check to see if there was a valid serialized dongle plugged in. Logic 6 will stop working soon after you pull the USB dongle out. Especially in the case with Live, I'd rather not have a bit of code constantly checking every few seconds whether there's a valid, serialized dongle plugged in to the USB port.

Bingo. That's also the deal-breaker for me. I'm on a laptop and two ports gets eaten up with my mouse and Logic dongle, while on the road. When at home, it's a PITA that I have to use a USB hub all the time.

I'm still hoping that someone invents and provides a simpler and more consistent CP scheme for all of us,

Unlikely maybe but if the Abletons went out of business where would you get your authourization code.

To get over the reauhorization thing Ive ghosted my system so If I screw up I can just restore it to the way it was.

Along a similar vien CP schemes will never stop crackers and warez users.
I dont believe theyre intended too. I think that a lot of warez users become legit users in the long run, so it is not in anyones interest to stop them. CP schemes are designed to prevent legit users lending copies to mates and thats about it.
