Les Paul actually influenced and touched music in a meaningful way.
Who has to die (besides the above mentioned) to touch all you electronic artists? Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, DeaddMau5, the guy who invented ecstasy, your mom?
Have fun with those guitar loops...
Funny, I have been wondering the same thing.

I think that although we have some great guitarists here, a significant proportion of Live's users have never so much as plucked at a string - even if you don't know Les Paul for being the father of multitrack recording, or the 'new sound' that he and Mary Ford created, (the first 'true' home recordings with overdubs etc), it should be obvious that one of the biggest range of guitars the Gibson LES PAUL was inspired by him. This is the Bob MOOG of the guitar world !!
I think it's fair to say that Les never had the media circus and the constant freakshow surrounding him like poor Michael Jackson (that poor dude never had a chance, he was always going to be a young death), which is also why most of the Deadmau5 generation to SOME of whom BT, The Prodigy and Sasha and Digweed are the only 'old' people they know of, have no clue what he did and who he is. Deadmau5 - don't even go there, this guy is already immortalized on this forum and won't be far behind MJ in the forum posts if he kicked the bucket tomorrow - even though MJ had more talent in one half of his left toe nail.

There's probably also plenty of people who thought he died a long time ago so in that regard this really isn't news.
