try looping samples at very very very small intervals in simpler/samplermonstrejumo wrote:I do not compute.2. No synthesizers or drums besides ones you can create via sampling![]()
also heres a hint for standard looping....the songs around 150 bpm 4/4
we can reduce the time limit to ONE WEEK if people agree???

Re: Ableton Live Beat Battle #1 Official Thread
hey guys!
pretty busy atm, but i love stuff like that!
after all this is a hell of a community and i think things like that can happen more often.
i'm also for keeping such a battle more short timed than all those remix competions etc.
maybe a general funkfunk monday would be something to think about.
announcing a kind of topic on thursdays or fridays and after the weekend we can ease the horrible mondays a bit with the creations that were done over the weekend... but this is all your decision...
cheers,
dom

I like the idea of over the weekend, but I am unsure how many participants will join first time around, so I want to give them a bit of leeway on the time issue.
once a week though would be cool, and it would keep things fresh...so if you miss one you can get down on the next without waiting too long.
or maybe the winner can just make whatever rules they want!
i would like to see an all out operator battle at some point

ok, that's a challenge for me, since I do not own sampler, and sparsely use simpler....I think it means you've got to use sounds from the main sample, manipulated in Sampler, to make your drums/synth noises.
thanks for the explanation
I do not compute neither... is the OP Nick the Zombie???enter Nick The Zombie!
anyway I approve 100% for stuff like this, I surely won't be in every one, but I'll do my best to honour our great community!
cheers

A year or so ago, CovOps hosted a super fun competition of only supplying 16 foundsounds, and challenging folks to make a song. That contest is what really, REALLY helped me learn Live.
Simpler is PROFOUNDLY powerful, especially with instrument racks. This is a good excuse to get to learn how to use them! My short advice - loop a small section of the sample (a single waveform or two) and stack 2 or 3 simplers, effect and filter them differently for complex, interesting, lead/pad/bass sounds. I use layered samples in Simpler for almost half of my basses.
Lastly, Nick the Zombie has some great tutorials on manipulating samples in Ableton. I believe he uses Sampler, but you can achieve similar results in Simpler and Instrument racks. His vids are HIGHLY recommended!

OK then here we go...
UKRuss - Always First, Never Best.
My lunchtime, finish on the train on the way home effort.

Loads of snippy snippy and sampler LFO modulation craziness, all drums in drum racked samplers...thats about it.
**LINKY WITHDRAWN**
tbh, I'm not really into serious comps, so once we get into the anonymous polling and the like, as they say in Dragons Den....I'm Out.
You get to keep the artwork so you see what it would have sounded like.

Quick question for Hurling:
Should people PM you their songs so the voting is anonymous?
If so you may want to specify on the first thread.
