What's a beta test?

I'm ok with MFL, it's just the fact that I'd feel much more chilled and mellow if the Abletons or Cyclings put some light on it. Like..."ehi we're almost there guys, hold on tight!"

Given that I'm following this and the "I got dumped" threads this afternoon, I can't help but imagine how similar they are. The less the Abes respond, the more you keep after them. Stop being such chicks.

It might also be possible that they weren't expecting 8 to be as buggy as it still is and more resources are being poured into sorting that out first. Even if it's different programming departments I would think that one is dependent on the other.

Dealing with a buggy M4L on top of a buggy 8 would not be good times.

You know I'm starting to wonder if the issue maybe isn't if it's done or not, but more of a negotiation thing between the two companies.... we have no idea what the pricing on M4L will be... considering that Max/MSP + Jitter is $700... who knows how much M4L will cost and who knows how what kind of arrangement the two companies will have. I know I plunked down a lot of money buying the Ableton Suite and personally I feel that if you bought the whole package that M4L ought to be included or at least discounted considerably. I think they have a large quandry here... price it too high and they won't sell too many... and as Max/Msp is a pretty esoteric product I understand the high price but Ableton has a pretty large install base and if they price M4L right it'll be a must buy for most Ableton owners and therefore they will sell a lot more... just a thought.

I am on a festival in avellino, italy, where christian kleine from the abes is giving a workshop. I don't know if I am supposed to tell you or not, but I have seen max 4 live today running, and he told me that it most probably comes out this year. I asked when the public beta would start, but he couldn't tell me, as this would be oranized by cycling 74. He showed me some patches he is working on, very neat stuff is possible. Looks as if this will be a toy with kind of endless possibilities.

yeah, but it still will take a long time to be actually released...

they do announce stuff way to early...

Hehe, yeah, I can see it still being under development in December and then they say ah feck it, we'll release it open source and you guys can get it working if you really want it...

You want it to be finished and stable.........right? It's gonna take however long it takes.
