I saw the same slow speed downloading huge files and then I figured out what was causing the problem. I had enable QOS in my home router. After about 6 mins of super fast downloading it went down to molasses. When I disabled the QOS downloads were all good. Someday I could certainly go back to the router QOS and rtfm... but mystery solved for now.
From Cycling's server the DL starts out fast but then dies after a few minutes and eventually times out after a couple of hours.

What is the recommended procedure when there is an updated beta for Live? Should we download the beta of M4L too? Is there a way to check for updates to M4L via Max and only download M4L when there are updates? This "dual" beta testing is kinda new.
Thanks!

How does M4L connects to Live? I installed M4L, but in Live I don't see where to launch it. I just miss this step to start trying it. How to install it so that Live sees it as a plugin???
Thanks

Live doesn't see it as a plugin (so to speak). You have M4L MIDI and Audio Effects as well as Instrument types. You drag them into a set and when you click the edit button on the device, it launches Max using M4L. It know inherently to launch it.

Where? In Live, nothing changed for me... Instruments, Midi Effects and Audio Effects are the same, no Max4Live in there. Not in Plugin devices, neither in the 3 folders. It seems that I have Max5 installed, not Max for live, but I followed the link in this section... The file I installed is :max5_5.1.0b8.zip Is this right?

Did you get the Live 8.1bX beta? The current is 8.1b8. You must first be a Live 8 registered user.

Now I did, and I follow instructions on the right pane of Live, without success. In preferences, I don't see the Max application (under File Folder), and in User Account Licences, under Software instruments, I have NONE... I authorized this computer online, all without success. What do I do wrong?
Thanks

Just doesn't work. Can someone give me dummy instructions on how to install this step by step?
Here is what I did:
Downloaded Live 8.1 beta8
Downloaded Max max5_5.1.0b8.zip
Installed both.
Started Live 8.1b8
then in preferences, clicked : authorize this computer, then on the website, I clicked Authorize this computer. Live started, but still nothing.
Help please
Thanks

I would contact support. Seems like you've done the correct procedure.

Hmm... trying to get started here. But my "BetaLibrary" is only 41K! (so I haven't got any "lessons" - help view only shows the first "Welcome to Max for Live" page and the home button doesn't work.... I trashed the prefs, re-installed it all and re-booted and it stays the same?

Hi avart,
Are you running the latest versions of both the Max and Live betas?
Try creating a new Library by selecting an empty folder in the Library tab of Live's Preferences window.
This should force a reinstallation of the Max for Live Pack, which brings all of the content and Lessons.
Best,

Thanks for the quick reply!
I got all the latest versions.
I created a "newbetalib"-folder and did the steps you suggested. A quick little progresswindow flashes before me (approx. 2 seconds, the same happens when I try to "Repair Library" - the somewhat irregular flashing and speed of that window bothers me a bit, doesn't seem right...) and the new folder grows to a whopping 33K and gets two folders inside of it: "Ableton Project Info" & "Presets"... but still no real content.

Hi avart,
Are you absolutely sure you have:
- installed Live 8.1b9
- installed Max beta 5.1b9
- gotten a Max for Live serial added to your account by registering at
http://www.ableton.com/maxforlive/beta
- authorized Live 8.1, after getting the Max for Live serial added to your account
Best,

ha, the last step was missing...
I had not pressed the "authorize this computer"-button after getting the Max for Live-serial...
The content is now updated.
Thanks a lot for the help!
