Well done. maybe this will be smoother in terms of crossfades. BosonHavoc's rack was nice but I still had jumps when panning from one spkr to another. Looks like you have developed his idea to the next step.
Thanks.

Very interesting.
I have been going down the surround path with Live for some time now, & have evolved similar systems. I'll check this out when I get back to my multi-speaker studio.
Thanks for posting this.

Cool. Please tell me if you have any additions to the setup

OMG. This works so well. Thank you so much. You just helped me solve a related puzzle. Thank you.

great great great! espeacially since I will be able work with an 8-channel audio system soon.
The actual project won't need fading stuff from one to the other speaker, but I already have made it clear that I want to do some of my own experimental stuff with it on one day ...

I'm glad to hear that my work is usefull

Please tell me if you develop the setup further!

Good Show! You effectively get around the limitation of the External Audio Effect not working with the Fade Ranges in Chains by using Aux Send/Return tracks & routing instead.
Check this out:
External outputs in Live can be either mono or stereo: one alternate approach is to have both mono & stereo panners for different effects.
Live sums a stereo source to mono when you send the source to a mono bus output, & Live maintains the stereo separation when you send the source to a stereo bus output.
This is how I work; I have 4 mono busses & 4 stereo busses going out to my 4 speakers.
UPDATE:
I kept the 4 mono busses (panned alternately 1-left, 2-right, 3-left, 4-right), & deleted the 4 stereo busses.
I use one of Live's Utility devices in source tracks, & can make the source either stereo or mono depending on how I want the left/right material to pan to each individual speaker.

@deHaan
nice setup. I made him myself but I have 2 questions.
1. why using sends, why not directly send the audio of the
8 audio tracks to the 8 outputs?
2. I don't think it's true that you can easily duplicate
the source track to have different source sounds which
you can separately pan in surround because the 8 audio
tracks are set to the first source track. So you have
to create another 8 audio tracks for every new source
track and set them to receive the right chain of the new
source track. I'm I right?
Still, it's works pretty fine, and since you can group tracks
it won't get too much of a mess of lots of tracks and it won't
hurt your cpu too much probably because they are only routing
sound....

Nice setup. question 2 by Yurki seems very relevant.

I think I may have a found a work around for creating multiple groupings of 8 tracks for each source track. If you create a group track and map the 8 tracks' source input to be the group track. The only limitation here is you can't control the sweeps differently because they are in the same group track.
I think a workaround would be to have 2 group tracks and 2 groups (not Live "group" tracks) of 8 audio tracks. You can control 2 different source tracks for surround sound differently.

All the workarounds here are great, can't wait to give them a try.
I would also like to share this particular free vst plug in. I recently stumbled upon it, haven't given it a try; but it looks promising.

Also, if anyone has had success using this Max4Live plugin

Would you be so kind to share your thoughts and experiences.
