We are now past the estimated hit time. No new water features in my front yard yet  No civil defense updates yet. Might just be another fizzer.

Just got a text from my mate in Samoa, and he and family ok.

I have not evacuated because our particular warning system of texts and sirens has not gone off and our area has no plans for evacuation.

Just listening to the National News on Radio and they are talking about racism in Australia.

I dunno what you're getting all worked up over...I was just looking out for the guy...who would want to be without 8.05 when surrounded by water, taking refuge up a coconut tree? Not me. Not me.

Wow, areas on the opposite coast (in the Waikato region, Raglan etc) are now evacuating. 8O

Local Council has updated saying ETA will be at low tide which is good, with an updated time, albeit an 1hr 15 min window.

This is by far the biggest mobilization of alerts etc I can remember.

Well the first hit has been recorded, only 40cm approx 1' 4" (as reported by Radio New Zealand). Well under the estimated 100cm. No damage, barely if at all noticeable. They are saying that it's often not a single wave event, could be up to 5 swells. Certain regions are still evacuated.

What I'm getting at is getting his priorities right: he should be spending these precious minutes teaching his sheep to surf.

Shit. The Civil Defence text alert system has been mobilized for our area. It is a precaution, but now alerting us to move to higher ground.

See you lads. 8O
