After some musing between this afternoons quotations for yet another reem of automated ship-to-ship cryogenic LNG transfer loading devices; One felt quite drawn to the poetic beauty of the following pronunciation 'flanger' and in 'banger'.

Ie:

Mrs. Gong: "Yur, Mister Gong"

Mr. Gong (Thats me like): "Yea Missus Gong?"

Mrs Gong: " Cum an get yer wanger in me flanger"

(Insert west country /wiltshire accent here for maxium effect)

Never heard it pronounced 'Flarnjer' though, more 'Flaan-juuuh' Ooh Aah, Imma Cyduuh Drinkuuh

I prefer it to rhyme with the Moroccan city of Tangier... the "Flangier" effect, if you will. Sounds more French.

The correct pronunciation is flan-jer.

The reason it is called that is that the effect was first 'realized' by pressing on the flange of reel-to-reel tapes: take two tape machines playing the same audio running in sync through the same amp/speakers, lightly press thumb on one tape reel's flange to slow it down slightly.
