Sorry to dig up an old thread but I would love to know if you resolved your problem as I have the exact issue...on fader 6 and have done since about when this post was made.

I'm getting the exact same problem now too. Fader 6 does nothing. The MIDI light doesn't even flash. Fader 5 also slightly moves fader 6.

Mine is doing the same thing, fader 5 works a little bit, but fader six isn't working at all. Pieces of shits they are...
And of few of my encoders are going wonky. They just kinda jump around after you move them and then continue to move around.

looks like akai want you to buy the new apc40...
